32GB Surface RT with touch cover is $249
Microsoft is offering customers who trade in a second generation or newer iPads a
$200 credit towards the purchase of a new Surface tablet
. However, we just stumbled across an even tastier deal if you're into supporting a rather stagnant ecosystem.
Manufacturer Certified on eBay is selling refurbished Surface RTs at a steep discount. The seller is currently offering the 32GB Surface RT with a black Touch Cover for
$249.99 with free shipping
. Stepping up to the 64GB model with a black Touch Cover will
set you back $279.99
Both tablets are backed by a one-year Microsoft warranty.
Manufacturer Certified offered a similar deal as a
part of the eBay Daily Deals promotion two weeks ago
, and they quickly sold out.
While the price is quite tempting, do remember that the
second generation of Surface tablets is due out later this month
, although it's doubtful that they will be priced this low.

The price it should have been all along

To be fair if it had been that price all along it would have made some great headway for MS into the tablet market. Sadly they overpriced it and allowed tons of jokes about it to persist over the past year.
The surface RT is not a bad tablet for that price, it will never compete with the iPad or some of the better Android tabs but it has a place in the market at this price, if only it had released at this price I probably would have bought one. Now there is little point as the new bunch of MS tablets are just around the corner and will likely come with the same relative high price.
I hope MS see sense and release the next round of tablets at a more reasonable price and don't bend to the other OEMs desires not to price it competitively.

Whether it's competitive or not depends on what you use it for. My son was required to get a device for school, for that purpose, taking into class, taking notes, websites, it's perfect. The iPad does not compare (and we got it for $300 with the type cover) at twice the price. No limited browser experience, full Office, can use a mouse or the touchpad, USB input, etc.
He's very happy with it, we thought about getting a iPad mini at about $100 (including a cover and keyboard)and we're glad we didn't
