Microsoft really wants you to switch from the iPad to Surface
Microsoft has decided to aggressively target iPad users in an attempt to get them to convert to its own Surface RT or Surface Pro tablets. The Redmond, Washington-based software giant says that users who bring in a "gently used" iPad 2, iPad 3, or iPad 4 will get at least a $200 gift card to the Microsoft store.
Microsoft doesn't specifically say that gift card has to be used for a Surface RT or
tablet. However, right after offering the $200 gift card for the iPad Microsoft does take the opportunity to mention that the Surface RT is available starting at $349 while the Surface Pro is available starting at $799.
The special offer is valid from September 5 until October 27, 2013 and is valid at select Microsoft retail stores in the U.S. and Canada. The offer is not available online so if you don't have a Microsoft Store nearby you're out of luck.
To be eligible for the trade-in the iPad must include the power cord and the device can't be password-protected.

"No one is carrying around a mouse and keyboard with a tablet"...
Mouse I'll grant you, I don't always carry around with it. Keyboard? Actually, the touch keyboards that come with the surface are basically 'free' since they double as a screen protector, still fit in the sleeve, and fold up right behind it if you want to use as a tablet only. I rarely take the S Pro anywhere without also having the keyboard. Including just from one room of the house to another to slouch on my easy chair and websurf a bit while paying half-attention to the TV.
So, guess I'm "nobody".
Bigger issue really is if you want to talk some sort of serious gaming, that screen real-estate is just too small. Sharp as all get-out, but tiny. I've played some fairly good looking games on it and always feel like a troll hunched over the tiny thing. For anything much beyond casual or rogue-likes (love FTL, favorite time-waster on the Surface, ever!) desktops with a real screen (and yes, keyboard and mouse) are the way to go for me and likely always will be. Until perhaps the VR headsets get a heck of a lot nicer.
