Microsoft really wants you to switch from the iPad to Surface

Microsoft has decided to aggressively target iPad users in an attempt to get them to convert to its own Surface RT or Surface Pro tablets. The Redmond, Washington-based software giant says that users who bring in a "gently used" iPad 2, iPad 3, or iPad 4 will get at least a $200 gift card to the Microsoft store.

Microsoft doesn't specifically say that gift card has to be used for a Surface RT or Surface Pro tablet. However, right after offering the $200 gift card for the iPad Microsoft does take the opportunity to mention that the Surface RT is available starting at $349 while the Surface Pro is available starting at $799.

The special offer is valid from September 5 until October 27, 2013 and is valid at select Microsoft retail stores in the U.S. and Canada. The offer is not available online so if you don't have a Microsoft Store nearby you're out of luck.
To be eligible for the trade-in the iPad must include the power cord and the device can't be password-protected.

Good idea. I've got relatives who have bought every new iPad, they are sure to have an old one they no longer want.

I don't see anything listed below 250$ on ebay.

Ebay has a "show only completed listings" option you can use to quickly check the market price (though incomplete Buy It Now listings still show up and have to be filtered out manually).

Looks like market price for a first gen iPad is about $150, iPad 2 is $250, and iPad 3 $300. The range for the first gen iPad is about $100-$170, so there's room to make some money if you were planning to buy a Surface tablet. I suppose you could also buy iPads to flip them to people buying a Surface tablet (buy off eBay, stand outside the Microsoft Store in a trenchcoat and whisper "Pssst, wanna buy an iPad?").

Nowhere in that does it mention the 1st generation iPad.

It also says at least $200. Not exactly $200.

Coming from you, LOL...that's amusing.

And as for your moronic comment on "who uses ebay", millions of people do.

God damn you're an idiot. Do you really think I meant no one uses eBay? No. What I did mean is that people trying to get the BEST deal on certain things like electronics especially tablets and smart phones won't find it on eBay but Craigslist. Now move along before you hurt yourself trying to understand the English language.

No, he isn't. Another one of those types of people who thinks he is right no matter what, even when he is completely and absurdly wrong. And notice how it's always the Apple defenders?

LOL where on earth are you making this shit up?!?!? I'm wrong and I refuse to admit it?! I don't see how I'm wrong about the price, you can find CHEAPER priced iPads on cl over eBay end of story there is nothing to be wrong or right about.
And I am an apple defender??? LOL where did you pull this from your moms ass? I'm a PC guy, I don't even own an iPad nor would I want to, and I don't see me defending apple anywhere I was simply stating you can find better deals on one on cl but it's just easier for you to make up arguments then to argue the facts.
Maybe you're ignorant because you're an apple fanboy? See I can make stuff up too =D

Hey Billy-boy.

You realize that when you buy off of CL at prices that seem a little too good, chances are really good that what you are buying had fallen off the back of the truck, right?

Hey monkey-baby.
You realize that some things aren't too good to be true but appropriate for the situation? I never said you're going to find a $25 iPad and it was obtained legally. But say 16gb iPad 2's are $200 on eBay how do you know it didn't "fall off a truck"? But that's another story let's get to the situation differences... That $200 iPad on eBay most likely is getting paid through PayPal who demands a % fee, the eBay listing had a fee, there are shipping costs and materials, you have to go out of your way to ship, and payment or transfer to your bank account isn't immediate... So many people, including myself, would rather sell the same item for $175 cash same day out my front door than $200 on eBay. In the end I get to keep almost the same amount but cl offers instant gratification for both buyer and seller. There are many people like this who lower their price on cl because it doesn't come with fees, it's easier, some sellers don't know the true value of their items, many sellers will negotiate their price while that isn't the case on eBay, and yes some might be ill-gotten goods but the same could be said for eBay where you might be paying more for your back of the truck iPad. No shopping portal where individuals list items are safe.
