AMD Pringle pushers were seen across the street from Intel's stronghold at the Moscone center

As Intel Corp. (INTC) detailed its efforts around computer chips Tuesday morning, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD) press representatives were seen on the street corner across the street from the Moscone Center giving away a different kind of chips -- Kellogg Comp.'s (K) Pringle chips.

The short stack (I got sour cream) bragged about AMD heterogeneous computing efforts, which include x86 based accelerated process units (APUs) (the once-precocious GPU-equipped SoC) and ARM Holdings plc (LON:ARM) licensed lightweight cores.

The chips -- "Bursting with flavor!" (mine were sour cream flavored and were okay) -- include a link to an AMD marketing page (amd.com/chips), which appears to be a guerilla marketing effort to steal some small bit of Intel's thunder and Intel's biggest annual press event.

On the site AMD writes:

You probably found us from the tasty can of potato chips handed to you on the streets of San Francisco. If you don't know who we are, take a minute and read our story and learn more about the AMD APU – a different kind of chip that is versatile and powerful and enables you to use your device how you want, when you want.
Is AMD's stunt funny, or did it leave you unappetized?  Is this clever guerilla marketing or shameless cries for attention?  Only you the readers can decide.

But on an editorial note, funny or not, I can't fault AMD too much for feeding us hungry reporters.

This year (and I think last year too), Microsoft had people handing out freebies outside Moscone center during VMWorld, trying to get you to go check out HyperV.

I think in Las vegas for VMworld 2011 I remember one of VMWare's competitors also bought most of the taxi-cab advertising (signs on their roofs) for that week.
