New machines promise performance and portability
Lenovo has announced several new notebook computers that are aimed at business users. The first of the new machines includes the ThinkPad T440p and T540p premium business notebooks. Both machines are powered by up to Intel Core i7 quad-core processors. The T440p promises a battery life of up to 13.7 hours.
The T540p promises a runtime of 12.6 hours with the extended battery pack. Both machines can be fitted with NVIDIA GeForce GT 730M graphics and up to 16 GB of RAM. Buyers have the option of SSD or HDD storage with capacities up to 1 TB. The machines are also available with integrated 4G LTE connectivity, mini-DisplayPort connectivity, VGA output, and four USB 3.0 ports.
Another new machine from Lenovo is the ThinkPad W540. Lenovo says this machine has the best ThinkPad display ever measuring 15.5-inches and using 3K IPS technology. The native resolution is 2880 x 1620. The notebook is only 27 mm thick and weighs 5.45 pounds. Lenovo says that makes it the thinnest and lightest notebook in its class.

Lenovo has also unveiled the ThinkPad E440 and E450 promising a combination of price, performance, and style for small business users. The machine can be fitted with quad core Intel processors and optional NVIDIA discrete graphics, storage is up to 1 TB, with up to 16 GB of RAM and integrated optical drives available. These machines run Windows 8 and feature 14-inch and 15.6-inch HD resolution screens respectively.

Not really impressed... I have the W530, and the only significant improvement over the W530 is the screen, which I wish was a touchscreen like the new Dell Precision (don't remember the model name).
I really wish Lenovo would go back to including good keyboards. I had a T61p before the W530, and I despise the W530 keyboard layout. I spend half my typing time, fixing mistakes I have made because the chiclet keys have been moved around. Btw, who thought the chiclet keyboard was a good idea for productivity?

Oh, one good thing I just noticed about the W540... Lenovo got rid of the completely useless speakers that took up ~4" of keyboard space. On my W530, with the speaker area being so large, I was half expecting a symphony when I played music through them for the first time. So much anticipation, for such a let down. What I got instead was a tin can playing through a pillow.
