AirPlay is expected to get a new feature

Apple will reportedly give Apple TV a software update next week, but details regarding this refresh are slim.

According to All Things Digital, Apple TV will get a software update on September 18. Not much is known about the changes that will occur, but one thing for sure is that its AirPlay system will have new capabilities.

AirPlay originally only let users purchase content from Apple's iTunes store and play it on a TV from there. But with the new update, users can have the content they bought play on other people's Apple TV boxes directly from the cloud.

In other words, a user can play the content they own on an Apple TV box that they don't own using the cloud (AirPlay).

Some expected to hear more about Apple TV hardware and software at the big iPhone 5S/5C reveals yesterday in Cupertino, but the new smartphones got all the attention. We'll have to see what rolls out come September 18.

It's not like anyone actually expects this site to get their facts straight but even five minutes at Apple's website would have set you straight on what AirPlay and its capabilities are.

Then again, this is widely known as the garbage dump of tech reporting.
