AirPlay is expected to get a new feature

Apple will reportedly give Apple TV a software update next week, but details regarding this refresh are slim.

According to All Things Digital, Apple TV will get a software update on September 18. Not much is known about the changes that will occur, but one thing for sure is that its AirPlay system will have new capabilities.

AirPlay originally only let users purchase content from Apple's iTunes store and play it on a TV from there. But with the new update, users can have the content they bought play on other people's Apple TV boxes directly from the cloud.

In other words, a user can play the content they own on an Apple TV box that they don't own using the cloud (AirPlay).

Some expected to hear more about Apple TV hardware and software at the big iPhone 5S/5C reveals yesterday in Cupertino, but the new smartphones got all the attention. We'll have to see what rolls out come September 18.

Bah, an amazing update would be if they made it compatible with the rest of the planet.

Now now, no need to be mean. I'm sure that the dozens of Apple TV users worldwide will be quite please with the update.

I already stream Pandora from my iPad directly to my Yamaha receiver through airplay; I could go through my Apple TV, but there's not need as my receiver has airplay built in. As far as I can tell, Airplay is already compatible with the rest of the world from a software perspective (I imagine the source device has to be from Apple though). So I don't understand what this article is blathering about.

The article is "blathering" about playing your ITUNE'S PURCHASED content on OTHER PEOPLE'S AppleTV's
