The mobile war is alive and well

Nokia took a stab at Apple's two new iPhones today during their big reveal in Cupertino, but the joke may be on Nokia as the public poked a little fun at the Finnish phone maker's response.

Apple introduced the budget iPhone 5C and the high-end iPhone 5S today at its campus in Cupertino, California. Both phones have new color options, where the 5C features a plastic body that comes in five colors and the 5S comes in silver, space grey and gold.

Nokia UK decided that the 5C's color choices looked a lot like the Lumia line, and took to Twitter during the event to share this opinion.

But Nokia UK made sure not to leave the 5S out. It later made fun of the 5S' gold color via a tweet that references the TV show "Breaking Bad."

Nokia was likely just joking around while trying to direct some attention toward the Lumia line on Apple's big day, but other folks on Twitter put Nokia in its place. Many responded to Nokia UK's tweets with statements that suggest no one wants Lumia phones.

Here are a couple of responses:

That is the sound of everything going over your head.

Apple at 3-4% Apple made a series of commercials making fun of and attacking MS PC users. Which is the point, going after Nokia because their impact is small right now, when a decade (or more, man time flies) Apple was in Nokia's position and did the same thing. It worked for Apple, they then became the power house they are today. Why would should people go after Nokia for doing the same thing Apple did so long ago to get to the place they are now?

There is a small problem. One, the PC (and OS) market years ago was very different than the current Smartphone market. Also, this jab was made by Nokia, comparing their Lumia line with the new iPhone. Knowing how many people have a fetish for Apple and want nothing else, Nokia may have made a good strategic jab. Will those with tunnel vision for apple (and others) be judging Nokia due to what they said? Or will they keep their eyes on the Lumia, which just happens to be in the hands of Microsoft? My bet is on the former… That also kind of makes the strawman point irrelevant, who cares about color (sure, the RGB combination could be slightly different) … all that matters is Nokia’s superfluous jab (which was probably requested by Microsoft), because when it comes down to war, moral is everything.

For as many people having Apple fetish, I think, you will find more people having anti-Apple fetish. Can't see anything wrong with Nokia trying to attract such people.

Why can't people just buy the phones on merit and requirements. They are phones not teams!

I bought my first apple product with the 3G because it was the best when it came out and stuck with them through the 4G becuase they were still good and becuase I was tied iTunes. Now I'm annoyed at their laurel resting and will probably jump to Android entirely becuase I want a big screen.

I feel sad for Nokia. I used to love their little fun sized chocolate bar phones back in the day.

You do realize that 99% of the people that have "smartphones" don't need them, so "buying phones on merit" is implying that people have a reason to own a smartphone other than "just coz" or "got it free from obama".

Not really. Your objections doesn't change the fact that Mick's reply is a strawman, so woosh on YOU, buddy. But yeah, I acknowledge the fact it's popular on this site to hate on apple, so please, just keep on ignoring logic and common sense. It's what I expect you to do anyhow.
