The mobile war is alive and well

Nokia took a stab at Apple's two new iPhones today during their big reveal in Cupertino, but the joke may be on Nokia as the public poked a little fun at the Finnish phone maker's response.

Apple introduced the budget iPhone 5C and the high-end iPhone 5S today at its campus in Cupertino, California. Both phones have new color options, where the 5C features a plastic body that comes in five colors and the 5S comes in silver, space grey and gold.

Nokia UK decided that the 5C's color choices looked a lot like the Lumia line, and took to Twitter during the event to share this opinion.

But Nokia UK made sure not to leave the 5S out. It later made fun of the 5S' gold color via a tweet that references the TV show "Breaking Bad."

Nokia was likely just joking around while trying to direct some attention toward the Lumia line on Apple's big day, but other folks on Twitter put Nokia in its place. Many responded to Nokia UK's tweets with statements that suggest no one wants Lumia phones.

Here are a couple of responses:

You've got to admit...

Apple did copy Nokia's entire color scheme top-to-bottom.

Does it matter? No.

General Motors capitalized on Henry Fords' unwillingness to make a car other than Black by manufacturing cars in a variety of colors. Henry Ford is famous for stating "anybody can have a model T in any color they want, as long as it is Black."

But the fact of the matter is I was looking forward to an Orange iPhone and there still isn't one. They could have really stood out with an Orange phone, them being incredibly rare (and mostly Firefox OS-phones these days)

I don't think they copied the colour scheme, but they were clearly inspired by Nokia, just as iOS 7 takes design direction from Windows Phone.

I sortof wish they had copied Nokia's colour scheme, the Lumias look a LOT nicer then the 5Cs.

As someone with a Lumia 920...
I do love the colour scheme, the downside is, people will now start thinking I have the latest iPhone. :(

All the better cause now they will take notice and you can correct them. :)

I wonder how many people will accuse Nokia of copying Apple.

iFans will begin accusing Nokia of copying Apple as soon as the 5Cs go on sale. Unfortunately, they will also quickly outnumber the Nokias in the wild which won't help.

You don't think they rather were inspired by their own ipod line-up? It's not as if nokia owns pastel hues or anything, you know...

Nokia owns pastel hues just like Apple owns rectangular devices with rounded corners?

If we should believe Samsung copied the iphone with their Galaxy phone then we have to believe Apple copied Nokia's phones when building the 5C.

If you don't see the resemblance between the Lumia 620 and the 5C you don't have eyes.

Thanks you!

I was actually going to mention the iMac in reference of Apple using color in their products, but the iPod is much more in line with this product, albeit not as old. :)

But Nokia bet on people's short memory, and this thread proves them right.

It isn't just colour, look at the front face of a 620 and then the front face of a 5C.

Apple actually tried to sue Samsung for the same thing.

Why not? Apparently Apple thinks it owns a lot of stuff it didn't do first.

Apple made a big deal out of having hardware and software using the same colours and also on how clever it was to be using a poly carbon casing. All of which is what Nokia has been doing for some time.

It is nothing new really - again and again Apple have been saying something was stupid/bad/... until they start doing the very same thing and it suddenly is not just fine but amazing and new.

I gotta wonder about the iPhone. Where is NFC, wireless charging, being waterproof and all the other things that are starting to be a standard in the industry. The only really new from Apple this time round was the finger print thing.

Orange iPhone from Apple ?

You better wish for a Pine apple iPhone, that is more likely to get approved.

That is a Myth , as exposed by the UK programme QI. Ironically the original model T Fords did not come in black, and Henry Ford never said that.

quote:
The Ford Model T was available in grey, red or Brewster green. In Manchester, you could only get them in blue. They were only available in black after 1913. There is no evidence that Henry Ford said that you could get them in any colour so long as it's black.
