New smartphones and a new Bluetooth enabled sub will for debut

HTC has rolled out a pair of new smartphones today, which include the Desire 601 and the Desire 300.

HTC says that the new Desire 601 has many of the features that made the HTC One a favorite among smartphone enthusiasts. The phone features a five-megapixel rear camera with features like Sequence Shot, Always Smile, and Object Removal.

The phone has a 4.5-inch qHD resolution screen. Under the hood of the 601 is a QUALCOMM Snapdragon 400 dual-core processor operating at 1.4 GHz. The 4G LTE connectivity allows users to connect to the fastest mobile Internet in the land where available.

The Desire 300 is HTC's new entry-level device featuring a 4.3-inch full lamination display. The smartphone runs a QUALCOMM Snapdragon dual-core 1 GHz processor. The entry-level phone also has HTC BlinkFeed and more.

HTC has also announced the HTC BoomBass, which is a small Bluetooth enabled subwoofer with its own amplifier designed to provide more base when combined with a BoomSound enabled device.

“We are committed to offering the most innovative portfolio of products on the market. Our Desire family has become synonymous with affordable quality,” commented Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation. "Offering some of the most advanced capabilities of any smartphone, these phones truly represent premium quality in a more affordable price bracket.”

The Desire 601 and 300 will be available in select markets starting in October.
Earlier this week HTC announced the arrest of a pair of high-level executives for allegedly stealing intellectual property and trying to start their own companies using it.

Can't wait to get back to IOS

Now there's a smart move.

The ONE is an amazing phone. And surprisingly all its features work fine? I don't get this update obsession for some people that wait with their stop watches. Maybe you should ask the staff when you buy a phone "will I receive updates in X time?" That might help.

fixed square boxes that you can move on your screen and iTunes? Oh joy.

meh... If someone thinks that getting the latest OS update (with very few real improvements) is more important that utilizing the features on their existing phone then they are better off with an iPhone.

I don't get it though, the One that he decided to buy aces the iPhone in every way and it has the same feature set it was sold with. Plus 4.3 is coming, it's already leaked and available to install. But hey, HTC came out with a new mid range model, so HTC One users should go back to the iPhone ??? LOL.

I wouldn't call it "hamstrung" considering the rate it is growing. But yes, lack of timely updates on OEM built ROM's is a weak-point. There are options

- Nexus or Google editions.
- Custom ROM like Cyanogenmod

If those are beyond you, then yes, the iPhone works too.

See, proof of what I said another day. When someone complains about lack of updates, the answer is "Mod your phone". When someone complains about malware on Android, the the answer is "You shouldn't have modded your phone."

Modding your phone is not at all necessary to have the latest updates if you have the Google Play edition.
These models receive the OS updates much quicker than other phones because they are not carrier dependent.
Most of the Nexus model phones have the most up to date Android OS available for them which improves the feature set and security of the phone..

Yes, I will go now and spend 2 car payments on the Google Play addition so Android updates are available whenever on my Android phone.

That makes sense.

I'm very happy with the One... and I'm not waiting for every single Android build.

I'd just like to see them keep their focus on their "flagship" model for more than a few months.

And to me, this doesn't look like a mid range phone. To me, it looks like an upgrade that I'd like to have.

Have you ever talked to phone shop staff? Most of the time the customer has more idea about the products on show than the staff do.

Updates are a valid concern, I don't know why people here like to pretend that they aren't, although they can be a double edged sword sometimes. I bought a HTC Sensation when that came out, and the last update killed it, as the hardware just wasn't able to cope with the new Android features as well as Sense.

Luckily I managed to ditch it pretty early and I have had a Sony Xperia S for a long time, which has been great. I have had several updates from Sony and they have all worked just fine.

That Apple handle updates pretty well is one of the positives of their platform, but there are many negatives too, and you can't just look at one issue in isolation and make a decision based on that of course.
