BlackBerry hits another bump in the road

The bad news just keeps rolling in for BlackBerry, which has seen its smartphone business implode rather than flourish following the release of the BlackBerry 10 operating system. The latest bit of bad news comes the CrackBerry forums, where a poster has indicated that T-Mobile is no longer stocking BlackBerry phones in its retail stores:
 
My manager told me the other day that all blackberry 10 devices will now be only available via direct ship. I work at a corporate store in cleveland I have to go check the Email but I'm not sure if this has just affected NorthEast Ohio.
 
"Direct Ship" means that customers will only be able to order the phones from the store or order them from T-Mobile's website. The 257-post long thread contains confirmation of the news from several posters, with one member stating that Jacksonville, FL-area stores are pulling BlackBerry smartphone off the shelves (presumably to clear space for better-selling iOS and Android-based smartphones).

 
Although we have not received official confirmation from T-Mobile at this time, this news is not exactly surprising. The Wall Street Journal reported last week that sales of BlackBerry's Q10 smartphone have been dismal since the device launched in April. Sales of the Z10 haven't been much better.
 
And it was reported earlier today that even BlackBerry’s board director Bert Nordberg is hinting at rough seas ahead for the company, stating that BlackBerry could live on as a “niche company”.  Nordberg also acknowledged the stiff market competition, adding, “battling giants like Apple, Google and Samsung is tough.”

When carrier stores don't sell devices of a specific model or type, they still occupy space in the store and in the carrier warehouses. This space would be better served by devices that are selling. Its not good business for a carrier to stock a tn of devices that people aren't buying.
