The Syrian Electronic Army (SEA) attacks USMC website

Given how much money the U.S. spends on cyber-intelligence, it's kind of amazing how woefully vulnerable the frontends of top U.S. government pages have been.  The latest high-profile government page to fall victim to foreign hackers is one of the primary U.S. Marine Corp. (USMC) webpages.

After attacks on The New York Times and Twitter, the Syrian Electronic Army -- a group of hackers in Syria who support President Bashar al-Assad -- hijacked the domain and redirected it to a defaced page they created.  The site is used as a recruiting page for the USMC, whose primary domain is

The page has a "warning" to U.S. Marines about interfering in the nation's civil war, which states:

This is a message written by your brothers in the Syrian Army, who have been fighting al-Qaida for the last 3 years. We understand your patriotism and love for your country so please understand our love for ours. Obama is a traitor who wants to put your lives in danger to rescue al- Qaida insurgents.

Marines, please take a look at what your comrades think about Obama's alliance with al-Qaida against Syria. Your officer in charge probably has no qualms about sending you to die against soldiers just like you, fighting a vile common enemy. The Syrian army should be your ally not your enemy.

Refuse your orders and concentrate on the real reason every soldier joins their military, to defend their homeland.  You're more than welcome to fight alongside our army rather than against it.

Your brothers, the Syrian army soldiers. A message delivered by the SEA.

The domain remained hijacked for several hours early Monday morning with users redirected to the replacement page.  By 9 am, though, the USMC had regained control of their domain, stomping out the SEA's efforts.

The SEA -- who uses hacker group Anonymous's slogan "expect us" -- has been repeatedly attacking the webpages of governments and media outlets in the U.S. and Europe who have criticized the President al-Assad's regime in recent months.  A twitter statement posted on the SEA's official account brags "Syrian electronic army penetrates [USMC] site [translated]."

The U.S. has been preparing for a potential missile strike on Syria ever since President Barack Obama (D) accused Syria's Bashar al-Assad of using deadly nerve gas missile attacks on rebel strongholds in the cities of Jobar, Zamalka, 'Ain Tirma, and Hazzah, killing over a thousand people and injuring thousands more.

While President Obama has condemned the attacks, he has opted to wait for the UN to complete its analysis of samples gathered from the attack sites and to get Congressional approval before carrying out any military action.  On Sunday various Syrian officials and state media sources blasted President Obama's decision as "hesitant and confused" and described his actions as "[a] historic American retreat".

chemical weapons are ineffective militarily, but they are very effective as instruments of genocide

Sorry, if deployed properly they are extremely effective militarily ask the Iraqis. The problem is not chemicals weapons specifically its any WMD in the hands of primitive screwheads. America like Russia has huge stockpiles of Nerve Agents, Blood Agents, Blister Agents and Biological agents which haven't been used since the great war.

Against untrained troops and civilians, chemical weapons work. Against veteran troops with the proper equipment such as wwI it just didnt make a difference. In any case, it is not something we want to become as common as a weapon of war.

Chemical weapons in Syria, who cares.

What difference does it make if Obama has “evidence” or not that the Syrian government is using chemical weapons? It should be none of the business of the U.S. regardless of the facts. By arguing about whether Assad is using chemical weapons or not, the stage is set with a built in excuse for war, because all that has to happen to justify the carnage is some sort of “evidence,” accurate or not, that these weapons have been used. That should be irrelevant because Syria is no threat to the U.S. By framing the argument around the weapons, the government wins the argument every time, for if this time it isn’t successful, the next false flag will be.

There is now a new way to create a war. Obama has invented it.

At this point in its history, the empire no longer needs to be attacked, by an actual or fabricated attack. It no longer needs to manufacture a pretext. It no longer needs to say that there is a threat of a threat. It no longer needs to suspect weapons of mass destruction. It no longer needs to point to an humanitarian concern. It no longer needs to mention national security.

Obama’s method is simple. Make a threat by drawing a red line. There need be no relation of that line to any U.S. interest or to national defense or an attack on America. The red line can refer solely to the behavior of some government (maybe even some splinter group) in some foreign land.

Then when the line is breached, the president declares that he must attack or else his resolve and reputation for strength will be undermined. The maintenance of a commitment to make war becomes the reason for the war.

This is a bootstrap method of getting a war going. The threshold for making a war has been lowered again and again and again. This is the lowest bar yet.

I have been through NBC training and let me tell you you could not be more wrong. There is no way to completely avoid contact with chemical agents most of the equipment is provided to prolong the fight as long as possible not eliminate exposure. Exposure = casualty = win.
