SMS flaw in new BlackBerry 10.1 maintenance release deletes messages for some users

BlackBerry recently rolled out a new maintenance release for its BlackBerry 10.1 operating system ( Unfortunately, the maintenance release has a nasty flaw in its SMS application. Some users are reporting that after they apply the update their SMS messages are disappearing.

Even more troubling is that fact that some users are reporting that the update destroys all SMS functionality.

After a few days of silence on the matter, Blackberry has posted an official response to its Knowledge Base that confirms the problem. The KB article states:
After an upgrade or update was performed to BlackBerry OS version it is noticed that all of the SMS and MMS messages have been discarded from the device.
And goes on to add:
This is a previously reported issue that is being investigated by our development team. No resolution time frame is currently available.
Obviously, if you haven't applied the 10.1 maintenance release to your BlackBerry device, you should probably hold off until this issue is resolved.

If your one of the unlucky ones that lost your text messages I feel for ya but this hasn't affected everyone.

I agree with you. My girlfriend has the Z10, which she got on release day. She updated her phone, with no problems. But she also backups up her phone before any updates. The original OS had some bugs in it (the inconsistent restarts was her biggest annoyance), but with this update it is running a lot better than before. No problems. She prefers Blackberry, this is her 3rd Blackberry (Pearl, Torch, and now Z10). All her coworkers have iPhones, so she has experiences with using iPhones, and hates iPhones now from her experiences with it. I have an Samsung (Android OS) phone, which she has used from time to time. And we also own an Asus Transformer TF300 Tablet (Android OS). So she hates the Android OS too. So it was a no-brainer for her to stay with Blackberry. And she is dreading the day when (if) Blackberry goes under and she will have to settle for an iPhone, Android, or Windows based phones and dealing with all the problems to go with those phones and wishing she had a Blackberry instead. Each phone has their pros and cons. For her Blackberry has more pros than cons, compared to the phones out now. That is her personal preference. Just like others prefer iPhones, Androids, and Windows. Which ever one gives you the best experience while using it.
