Chromecast is reportedly available on right now

Earlier this week, Google officially unveiled its new media streaming stick called the Chromecast. The device looks like a standard flash drive designed to connect directly to the HDMI port of a HDTV or computer monitor. Once connected to a display device, the Chromecast allows users to stream video from sources like YouTube and Netflix to the TV directly from their smartphone.

During the initial launch promotion for Google's new media streaming stick, it was offering three months of free Netflix video streaming service to both new and existing customers. That was approximately a $24 value in free streaming content for purchasing the $35 Chromecast. However, it looks as though customer demand has put a swift end to the Netflix promotion.

"Due to overwhelming demand for Chromecast devices since launch, the 3-month Netflix promotion (which was available in limited quantities) is no longer available," Google told the LA Times in a statement.

Google also offered some clarification, stating that all users who purchased the Chromecast before the promotion ended will be able to redeem their three free months of Netflix streaming video service.

While you're waiting to plan, purchase and assemble your HTPC, I'll be over here watching some TV shows and movies streamed over Chromecast.

Have fun with your HTPC (when you finally have one) but this is for people that just want to watch things on their TV from their PC and not have build something, set it up, work out any kinks and hope it keeps working the same.

Seeing as how is already sold out, and is a very hot item all over the web, people have figured out uses for it that you haven't.

If you even bothered to read the posts in this very thread you would see a bunch of them.

Yes because most people dont have a wii, xbox, ps3, appleTV or the plethora of other devices you can stream youtube on. Not to mention they all have remotes.

Most people I know have more than one TV but only 1 console or none at all. Nobody would pick to watch a movie on a computer vs a TV sitting on the couch. Only tech nerds would would build an HTPC for the living room TV.

I would buy chromecast as well because I don't want to put my console in the living room. My boom boom room has all the goodies of entertainment and gaming for a single person. My living room has entertainment for multiple people and chromecast is appropriate there.

Geezzz another person that thinks they know what "EVERYONE" would or should do. I have no problem watching a movie on my PC sitting in my LazyBoy recliners. I even think it looks better on my PC. Go figure.

That's pretty common for him....
