Official launch is set for next week

If you follow the automotive world, BMW, or electric vehicles in particular you may be familiar with the BMW i3. This car set to make its official debut next week, but ahead of that official debut a slew of images have now hit the internet. Images of the car have been seen online in the past, but those vehicles wore camouflage to disguise some of the lines of the vehicle.

The new images that have leaked are of the car sans its camouflage. We already know that the car will start at $41,350 for the full electric version when it goes on sale in the United States next year.

BMW will no doubt pitch the vehicle as a more upscale alternative to other small, electric-only vehicles like the Ford Focus Electric ($35,200) and the Nissan Leaf ($27,700).

The little electric car has a 168 hp synchronous electric motor and a top speed of 93 mph. There will be a range extended version of the car with a gasoline engine, but pricing has been unannounced on that version.

With just a few small changes on window size etc etc, this could look like a Mini Cooper.

Small changes ? SMALL changes ?!?! This thing looks like the outcome of a 3-way with an Aztek, Mini Coupe and Juke. It puts the U in ugly. When you look up ugly in the dictionary, this just displaced Helen Thomas as the picture you'll find.

Just to add ... my best guess is the BMW let this design go so they wouldn't have to hear about Chris Bangle anymore. One look at the front of this thing and people will be forgetting all about Bangle Butt BMWs.

Nope. If you look at just the profile, no details, JUST the profile outline of this vehicle. It wouldn't take many changes to make this look something like a Mini.

It's just the details that make this truly ugly. The windows are wrong. That stupid rear half-door is just ugly. The rear end needs works. Stuff like that.

Good observation.

I'd go so far as to say it's really only the front end and rear lights that makes the car look ugly. The windows are a unique touch. The front bumper and lights make it look too goofy, IMO.

At least the i3 has some beauty inside, while Helen Thomas was ugly all the way through.
