The producers of "Fifty Shades of Grey" will be working on it

Fans of the PlayStation series "Gran Turismo" not only have a new game to look forward to, but now a movie as well.

Sony will reportedly make a silver screen adaptation of the popular video game series, which is already in development. Producers Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti -- known for "Fifty Shades of Grey" -- will run the show.

Sony executives Elizabeth Cantillon, DeVon Franklin and Hannah Minghella will take hold of the movie project.

"Gran Turismo" is a series of racing simulation games that originally launched in 1997 for the original PlayStation. Subsequent titles in the series were released for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable (PSP).

The next game to be released -- "Gran Turismo 6" -- is expected to make its way to PS3 consoles later this year. It was officially announced in May, and will have plenty of new features including 1,200 cars with new cars continually added online; several thousand aerodynamic parts and custom wheels for almost every car in the game; 33 tracks total with 71 different layouts available (including 19 brand-new layouts), and an improved course maker functionality with scenery spanning tens of square kilometers.

Days of Thunder grossed over $157,000,000, so apparently, quite a few people.

But we digress, as GT includes many other-left turns in it.

And this movie will probably have a budget alone far bigger than that gross profit.

But I gotta agree with the OP. This will be yet another example in the long line of live action films based on video games that totally suck.

And this is gotta be the least interesting game franchise to base a movie off of. You have no characters, no story, no story arcs, just...nothing. You're a car driving on a track in Grand Turismo basically. You don't even shoot a gun at people or anything, you race a clock lmao. Wow, thrilling!

This is just someones pathetic attempt to me2 the Fast n' Furious franchise.

Sounds to me you're forgetting there is actually a career mode in the GT games. It might not show some avatar spraying champagne or getting kisses from pretty girls, but that is because the player is the one progressing in the game not the player controlling an avatar.

I think it is very early to declare this movie as "...just someones pathetic attempt to me2 the Fast n' Furious franchise." as the movie could easily be about some guy, or girl, that is trying to make it in racing. For sure this could be cheasy, but it could also be good like fx. the movie "Le Mans".

So what? That's hardly a blueprint for a fleshed out story world to base a movie off of.

I mean for fuks sake, if Hollywood can't manage to make a good movie based on Final Fantasy, where the game developers did all the work for them as far as story and game universe and character development goes, how in the hell can you hold out any hope GT: The Movie is going to be any different?

Well that's obviously what this is. This has been the SOP of the movie studios for decades now: find what's making money and copy it. Just throw Vin Diesel and Paul Walker types into some thinly plotted BS with hot cars and hotter chicks, and there you have it, Gran Turismo the Movie!

Don't forget that in the movie Tom Cruises character invented drafting!

Or to put it differently Days of Thunder was an insult to everyone that knows the first thing about racing, but it did have some pretty footage.
