Apple is sending invites to users who aren't in the developer community
Apple has started sending out invitations for regular users to try its iWork for iCloud beta program.
beta provides Apple's iWork suite of software like Keynote, Numbers and Pages in a browser format. This allows users to access the software from a PC, Mac and many Web-connected mobile devices.
The Web version of iWork was introduced at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), which took place last month. The company then sent invites for registered developers to test the new service first.
Now, non-developers are receiving invites as well.
"We’d like to invite you to be one of the first to try it, so we’re giving you early access to the iWork for iCloud beta," said Apple in the invitations being sent. "All you have to do is sign in to iCloud on a Mac or a PC using the current version of Safari, Chrome, or Internet Explorer. Then just click on Pages, Numbers, or Keynote and you’re off.
"We’re really proud of these apps and we’d appreciate your help in making them as great as they can possibly be. So we’d love to hear your feedback as you use them."
IWork for iCloud is expected to make its way to the public in late 2013.

I really hope so. I've heard the word processor and Keynote are much better than the Microsoft alternatives. although Excel is untouchable (apparently).

The only part of Office I would still use is Excel, I dumped Word a long time ago and never missed, we live in a post Word world.
Numbers, the spreadsheet in iWork is pretty good for most basic to mid level spreadsheet uses, at the complex data mashing end of things Excel still is better.
What's so interesting about the new web aspect of iWorks is that Apple seems to have created web apps that really do work just like native apps. If it does what Apple claims then it is pretty amazing because it means it becomes relevant whether you have the app installed, or what device you are using, if you can get on the web you can use iWorks.
Personally I think making iWork free and bundling it with every Mac and iOS device makes a lot of sense, I would also like to see things like Garage Band and iPhoto on iOS made free and bundled. It would add a lot of value to iDevices.
"So, I think the same thing of the music industry. They can't say that they're losing money, you know what I'm saying. They just probably don't have the same surplus that they had." -- Wu-Tang Clan founder RZA
