Deja-vu

I'm looking at the AMD FX-9590 and all I can think of is: Pentium 4. Look at how much power it burns to compete with the i7-4770k (and it's still crushed in FPU intensive tasks). It's not even funny.

Its essentially a factory-overclocked part. All cpu's, no matter what brand or type, will use an increasing amount of power as you clock them higher. Heck, you can clock an ARM chip hot enough to fry an egg if you wanted to. A consumer chip at 5 Ghz is a pretty sweet achievement, and it does so with impressively moderate power consumption.

Isn't it stupid to overclock a part that isn't exactly power sipping to begin with? Maybe it's worth doing if it lets you regain the performance crown, but it doesn't even do that in this case.
Oh well, they need every cent they can get and it shows.
