Breach affected 6 million users
Facebook clued the world in on a recent
that affected 6 million users and last an entire year.
Facebook said a technical glitch in its archive of user information caused the data leaks. This archive holds contact information from all 1.1 billion of its users around the globe.
However, Facebook said that the leak only affected 6 million users, releasing their phone numbers and emails. When Facebook users downloaded contact data for their list of friends, they received these additional phone numbers and email addresses -- which they weren't supposed to have.
The leaks reportedly started in 2012, but Facebook's security staff didn't catch it until a little over a week ago. The social network was able to fix the bug in just 24 hours, and revealed the issue just last Friday.
"We currently have no evidence that this bug has been exploited maliciously and we have not received complaints from users or seen anomalous behavior on the tool or site to suggest wrongdoing," said Facebook.
This isn't Facebook's first encounter with a data breach by any means. In 2010, for instance,
The Wall Street Journal
reported that 10 popular Facebook apps were
sending Facebook's user's information
to advertising and Internet tracking companies for data mining purposes.

Here's a good site that's been putting a lot of emphasis on Facebook privacy breaches. They're aggregating stories on FB.
Some of it could be paranoia, but some is quite disturbing.
