Canada has been searching for a fourth to compete with its top tier carriers for greater consumer choice and competitive prices
Verizon Communications Inc. may make its way into Canada as a major carrier.
There's an open opportunity for a company to move into Canada as the fourth major wireless carrier, since there are only three right now. Canada has been searching for a fourth to compete with its top tier carriers for greater consumer choice and competitive prices.
Canada's three largest carriers are Rogers Communications, Telus Corp and BCE Inc's Bell. Other smaller companies have come along in an attempt to be the fourth, such as Public Mobile, Wind and Mobilicity. However, none of them have been as profitable as the top three.
There's a chance that Verizon could acquire one of the smaller companies like Wind or Mobilicity to make its move into Canada.
In February of this year, Verizon announced
pricey prepaid plans
in the U.S. It offered either $60 USD/month for unlimited 3G talk and text plus 500 MB of data, or $70 USD/month for unlimited 3G talk and text plus 2 GB of data.
It announced it
Share Everything plans
last year, where owners of basic feature phones pay a base "Monthly Line Access" rate of $30/month per device while smartphone users pay $40/month per device. Adding USB wireless modems, notebooks, or netbooks cost $20/month per device and adding a tablet costs $10/month per device. As far as data goes, it starts from $50/month for 1GB of shared data up to $100/month for 10GB of shared data.

Now if they coming in offering fibre internet for reasonable prices rogers and bell will have something to fear.
This is a good thing for the canadian market as everyone is pretty sick of the top 3 and their strangehold on the market.
