The controllers may make an appearance at WWDC

Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) has focused a lot on software, such as iOS 7 and Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks, and while there have been a lot of Mac and Macbook hardware updates, there appears to be no iOS gadgets on the horizon -- except, just maybe, iOS game controllers.

According to Touch Arcade, Apple's developer site now has a set of guidelines on how game controllers for the new iOS 7 should work. This likely explains why game controllers were briefly mentioned in the WWDC keynote two days ago.

The guidelines are vague. They offer a few drawings that show a standalone game controller with dual analong sticks and another controller that fits over your iPhone, allowing you to see your screen.

Apple mentioned that any games made for the iPhone with a controller must be capable of being played without it.

Touch Arcade added that actual iOS controllers are mysteriously hiding somewhere at WWDC, waiting to be revealed at a later date.

Looks more like a Wii Controller (and by proxy a SNES remote) than it ever will look like a 360 controller
