"Industry insiders" predict a possible Nintendo Wii launch in September or October

Nintendo’s Wii may be released earlier than expected if the latest reports are accurate.  Chris Morris, writer of CNN.com's Game Over column, has written an article about the possibility of the Nintendo Wii game console launching a month or two earlier than expected.  Although the Wii had been originally expected sometime in November, with no official release noted by Nintendo, Morris says a release in September or October is not unrealistic.  A June 21 analyst's note claims that Nintendo is already manufacturing Wii console units that are final retail units.  According to the editorial on CNN:

Indeed, the company appears to be already manufacturing final retail units of the Wii, according to a June 21st analyst's note from P.J. McNealy of American Technology Research. That would give it a significant head start over Sony, which has yet to begin final manufacturing of the PlayStation 3.  Microsoft's first Xbox 360 did not roll off the assembly line last year until 69 days before the on sale date of Nov. 22. (That late start in production is the root cause behind last holiday's shortages.)

With the Microsoft Xbox 360 game console being the only next-generation console on the market today, gamers are anxiously awaiting console releases from Nintendo and Sony.  The $250 USD price tag alone has made the Wii an appealing console for many potential gamers.  Nintendo is hoping to have enough units in stock after the console is released to combat extremely low supplies that sometimes plague other console releases.

Does anyone know if there's any way you can play the Wii (or any other console for that matter) on a standard LCD/CRT? i.e.- for those of us who haven't bothered buying a tv set :)
if this is possible, then I'm definitely in for the Wii...

Yes this has been possible forever. All you need is a VGA box. There are many 3rd party ones available. I used to use one on the original playstation many years ago. Of course you don't get sound but the VGA box I had had a audio out that I hooked up computer speakers to. Plying on a computer monitor looked way better than any tv in my house at that time and IO bet you a good CRT would still kick ass with these games. The VGA boxes are usually around $50 but you can do a google search.

AS far as the Wii I really don't think I need one. There are many levels of gamers out there. I think the wii would be good for the avereage gamer. Those younger kids or adults who just want simple and fun games. There may be some market from the old schoolers that remember the 8bit days where you had to blow on the cartridge for 5 minutes to get the game to load. But hardcore gamers need the top of the line consoles with the HD graphics. So those people will get the 360 or PS3 or stick to PC gaming. The wii will sell well and be popular but it will still never be better than number 3. which should still make them lots of money.

Nintendo has announced a cable that will allow you to play the Wii on a computer monitor using VGA. But that cable hasn't actually been shown in public yet.
