Sales are roughly half the first-month sales of the Samsung Galaxy S IV, and a third of the Apple iPhone 5's

HTC Corp. (TPE:2498) is grappling with employee departures and the slow-rolling death of its "Facebook Phone", the HTC First. However, the company is at least optimistic about sales of its HTC One 1080p flagship Android smartphone picking up steam.

The company's CEO said on Wednesday that his firm had moved roughly 5 million of the metal-unibody devices in its first month on the market, despite all the issues surrounding parts delays and (according to The Verge) issues with the anodizing process in the black variant.  By contrast, Samsung Electronics Comp., Ltd. (KSC:005930) saw a far smoother launch, but shipped 10 million Galaxy S IVs -- perhaps not as resounding a win as it might have hoped.

Part of the HTC One's sales may come thanks to strong reviews and the aforementioned slick metal-body.  The metal-and-glass design in Apple, Inc.'s (AAPL) iPhone has long been held up as a key selling point; HTC's all-metal body won similar praise.

HTC CEO Peter Chou, who is grappling with the decision of whether to step down amid financial struggles, told The Wall Street Journal, "Orders are pretty good so far and are still more than what we can supply. This is partly due to the shortage of components. When the issue is resolved next month, we will have a better idea if it's doing really well or not."

The iPhone 5 moved five million units in a weekend, but averaged only about 9.1 million units per month in the three following months [source].  The HTC One, which retails for around $579 USD unlocked, should help the company's margins, which are currently dangerously thin.

This is by far the best Android phone. It's a shame sheeple keep buying plastic Samsung garbage.

I really like when people say that the iPhone is better than my Gs3 because it's made out of metal... then have their iphone covered in a TPU case.

I love my One S, but I'm debating getting the One to replace it. It looks great, but a little big. I got the One S primarily because the One X looked too big. I do know it won't fit in my current holster, as the One S just barely fits.

For some people, having a plastic body means it's garbage.
For other people, lacking a micro-SD card slot means it's garbage.
For others, lacking a removable battery means it's garbage.
And for yet others, having Sense or Touchwiz (or either) means it's garbage.
And for others still, lack of front speakers, AMOLED, or a whole host of other features is what makes it garbage.

Different people have different needs and preferences, go figure. That's the beauty and the strength of the Android ecosystem. Saying that there's one "best" Android phone and the others are garbage puts you on the same level as iPhone users who insist their phone is the best and people using anything else are using garbage.

If you need to validate your self-worth by insulting those who make different choices from yours, it's you who has the problem, not them. One can argue the merits of each feature, but ultimately it's up to each individual to decide which of those features matter most to him, and pick a phone - be it HTC, Samsung, LG, or even the iPhone.

The only person who is "wrong" is the one who insists that his choice is the best choice for everyone else.

There we go. Someone that is actually speaking sense! +1

The human race is not made up of identical clones. Only a moron has the notion that each person should have the same preferences as he does.

I am not a clone of anyone else.

I happen to like the plastic removable back, a battery I can replace without burning my warranty, the ability of popping in a 64gb MicroSD card and my phone's 5" AMOLED display. I don't care what anybody else thinks of it - it works perfectly for me.

Do you not understand the difference between giving and opinion and called other peoples opinions garbage? This is a comment section and is for people's opinions. You are fine to your opinion.

I personnally like the plastic for the following reasons:
1. Better reception possible (also nfc)
2. Lighter
3. More durable
4. Easy battery replacement in case I want a bigger one

I also would prefer additional storage as my current gnex lacks that.

This is my opinion and did not include "any other phone is garbage" or "anybody wanting a metal body is an idiot". That is the difference.

And you totally missed the last sentence of this didn't you:

You apparently don't understand the difference between giving one's personal opinion or raging against others that do not share it.

Also -- did I even mention the work Samsung in my post?

Jeez... And you call me a tool. Obviously I'm a sharper one than you friend.

That this post got rated up and I got rated down, is, well, pathetic.

Maybe you should add something other than calling somebody else a name. While I do not agree with his comments, yours brought nothing but flames to the conversation.

Maybe you should learn how to follow a thread.
