Samsung's flagship phone is king of the Android market
Samsung Electronics Comp., Ltd. (
) continues on
its tear in the smartphone industry
. Nearly as profitable as arch-rival Apple, Inc. (
], Samsung is on pace to
sell 390 million smartphones
this year, an incredible number.
Early sales numbers from the
Galaxy S IV
are looking healthy. Despite
over its plastic-body
, strong marketing appears to have come through for Samsung. The company's co-CEO JK Shin
The Korea Times
that the handset will hit the 10 million unit sales mark next week, a mere four weeks after its global launch.
By contrast, Samsung's last-generation flagship phone, the
Galaxy S III
took seven weeks
to hit that mark.
The Samsung handset had
a rather bizarre unveil
... but appears to be keeping pace sales-wise. It should get another little boost on June 26, when an unlocked version comes to Google Inc.'s (
) Play store, priced at $649 USD.

High end Android devices like the GS3 and GS4 are a niche for Samsung, only about a quarter of their sales. That massive Android marketshare is low end stuff sold for cheap without a contract or given for free with one.
Aside from that, iOS still makes up the majority of mobile internet traffic, app usage, and even Google still makes about 3x more on mobile ad revenue from iOS than they do from their own Android.
If you're comparing high end smartphone market, the segment I think most of us care about, then the iPhone is much bigger. If you really do care about all the low end Android hardware out there that isn't being used for the internet or applications, then yes, its cool that there are so many of them out there.
Marketshare dick waving aside, who really cares? Use what you like.

I can get iPhone 4S on £21 monthly tariff, I guess that would be low end, right?
