New Toshiba tablet will launch this quarter

Toshiba has gone official with its latest Windows 8 Pro tablet. This Toshiba WT310 has more in common with an average ultrabook than some of the other tablets on the market and features an 11.6-inch full HD resolution display.

Toshiba is staying mum on some of the details of the tablet, such as which exact Intel Core processor it uses. It's also unclear how much storage capacity will be featured, though that storage is via a SSD. The tablet also has a SD memory card slot for storage expansion and a USB 3.0 port.

The tablet is aimed specifically at business users featuring enterprise-oriented features such as Trusted Platform Module, Active Management Technology, and antitheft software. Toshiba will offer the tablet with an optional docking station making it easy to connect to external accessories.

Other hardware features for the tablet include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and optional LTE mobile broadband capability. The tablet does support Intel WiDi wireless display technology and features a digitizer pen as an optional input method. The tablet has a touch sensitive screen, measures 9 x 7.5 x 0.5-inches, and weighs 1.8 pounds.

Toshiba is also not offering up any pricing details on the tablet, but we’re guessing that it will be priced more along the lines of the Surface Pro rather than Surface RT.

I liked the Thrive a lot. It had a lot of potential but I can't get over the industrial look and I was looking for something with higher res because it will be mainly used for photo viewing. This one looks to improve everything I hated about the Thrive and the bonus of having full windows OS.

My only gripe seems to be the bland looking design. But boring is better than ugly.

Also USB3 is a necessity with 24MP RAW Pics. I hope the SD slot supports all the new formats and deliver high transfer speed. There's nothing worse than trying to access your SD card and reader won't read.

The article is short on specs and pricing, but I am not sure what benefit this would have over the surface pro unless it costs a good amount less. Seems bulky compared to the surface, which also has microSD and USB3.

The only upside may be it has a place to store the pen inside the unit. That is the one thing the surface didn't do so well, especially since the place you attach the pen is the same place you attach the charger.

11.6 inch screen and it measures 9 x 7.5 x 0.5-inches, and weighs 1.8 pounds.

And the surface pro....

10.6 inch screen and it measures 10.81 x 6.81 x 0.53 inches, and weighs 2.0 pounds.

Either you bought a surface pro, and now you have penis..errr tablet envy, or you just couldn't be bothered to do a 2 min search.

That was a really baffling design decision by MS, but looking at these picture, this Toshiba seems to have the same flaw.

As Manch said above, you should note that this Toshiba is a bigger screen in a lighter chassis than the Surface Pro. That's a decent achievement. The keyboard accessories is the big question.
