2006 operating systems adds new features and increased performance

Nokia has just made available the 2006 OS for its 770 Linux-based Internet tablet. The high anticipated update adds a number of features that make the handheld device even more attractive.

New features include performance tweaks, better memory management, SIP-based VoIP and the addition of the Google Talk chat client. Users can go to Nokia USA's website and enter their Product ID to proceed to the download page for the system update.

For those unfamiliar with the $350 Nokia 770, it features a 4.13" 800x480 display, Texas Instruments 1710 OMAP processor, 802.11b/g wireless, Bluetooth, 1500 mAh Li-ion battery, 64MB of RAM, 128MB of internal flash (64MB available to the end-user) and an RS-MMC memory slot. The device also features an Opera web browser, built-in email client, media player and PDF viewer.

Nice device, if only it could play games. Does it have a full featured version of Linux though? Can it run OpenOffice?
