Printing delays dragged the circulation date til Fall 2013

A new $100 bill -- which will offer advanced security features -- will finally begin circulating this October.

The new bill will have enhanced security feautures, such as A three-dimensional, blue security ribbon. The idea is to make the bill easier to authenticate, but more difficult for counterfeiters to recreate.

The $100 bill was originally introduced in 2010, but circulation was delayed due to a malfunction in the printing process.

The bill will officially start circulating on October 8, 2013.

Need to change bill sizes

The US really needs to start issuing bills in different sizes and colors, as most countries do. This makes it easier to distinguish the different denominations. Likewise, the US really needs well-designed $1 and $5 coins. Coins are great when you want to just pull one out of your pocket instead of rifling through your wallet to find the right piece of paper money.

The problem with existing coins is that every $1 coin has been poorly designed so that it's easy to mistake for a quarter or a half-dollar (although those have disappeared). A nice hefty $5 coin or maybe a $2 coin would be very handy.

Different sizes help you differentiate multiple bills, but isn't a good way to tell which bill you're holding in isolation. Tactile systems handle that part.

Colour, though, agreed.

We should also incorporate Braille on money so blind people can use it. And don't forget to print money in Spanish so Latinos can use it. I'm sure California would overwhelming approve those two measures if they had a say in it.

Also, the bills should be rainbows to promote LGBT activism. Also, replace Ben Franklin with Harvey Milk.
