Samsung allegedly hired students to criticize HTC devices

Samsung has found itself in hot water in Taiwan with fair trade officials after allegations surfaced that the company hired students to post false, critical reviews of HTC products online.

Samsung, for its part, has stated that the "unfortunate incident" goes against the "fundamental principles" of the company.

If Samsung is found guilty of false advertising, it and its local advertising agency could face fines of up to 25 million Taiwanese dollars. A Fair Trade Commission spokesperson said that the investigation began after a series of complaints were received against Samsung.

More fuel was added to the fire when a Taiwanese website posted documents that allegedly show Samsung had been recruiting students to anonymously offer praise for Samsung devices on the internet and simultaneously criticize HTC offerings.

Samsung's legal troubles with false advertising aren’t the only false advertising allegations the company is fighting. LG sued Samsung in South Korea over claims of false advertising. In that case, Samsung countersued LG for $45 million.

Samsung was also fined in Taiwan earlier this year over misleading advertisements having to do with specifications for the camera on the Galaxy Y Duo.

I would venture that anyone as smart as you Tony realizes that most people are pretty stupid, but whatever. You are just here in a non-Apple article posting your usual pro-apple crap so don't be shocked when people reply with differing opinions.

The other problem with being 100 percent full of s**t all the time is that no-one gives your opinion any weight because they all know its biased.

Nope. I have a high opinion of most people, they get on with their lives and make the world go round. I find the condescending, smug conceit of folks on forums like this who casually dismiss hundreds of millions of people as being stupid to be repulsive and juvenile. It's the intellectual equivalent of listening to Beavis and Butt-head discussing technology. Explaining what tens of millions of other people do as being the result of their stupidity is just a way of avoiding having to face up to the real reasons why things happen.

I didn't bring Apple into this discussion of Samsung's dirty tricks, others did, I am merely responding.

You obviously care about my comments because you always respond to them.

Awe come on, it was just a funny quote from George Carlin, a great comedian. I dont actually think most people are stupid, but most certainly are under-informed when it comes to tech. Normal people like that would NEVER visit this website, anyone here at a site like this isnt normal.

Yes, Tony, we ALL know why you are here. There is no point acting like it isn't what it is. Years worth of your posts let us all know exactly why you are here.

Balance. As long as you post toward your company driven agenda, posting against, and exposing your agenda driven posts will be something you need to deal with.
