Samsung allegedly hired students to criticize HTC devices

Samsung has found itself in hot water in Taiwan with fair trade officials after allegations surfaced that the company hired students to post false, critical reviews of HTC products online.

Samsung, for its part, has stated that the "unfortunate incident" goes against the "fundamental principles" of the company.

If Samsung is found guilty of false advertising, it and its local advertising agency could face fines of up to 25 million Taiwanese dollars. A Fair Trade Commission spokesperson said that the investigation began after a series of complaints were received against Samsung.
More fuel was added to the fire when a Taiwanese website posted documents that allegedly show Samsung had been recruiting students to anonymously offer praise for Samsung devices on the internet and simultaneously criticize HTC offerings.

Samsung's legal troubles with false advertising aren’t the only false advertising allegations the company is fighting. LG sued Samsung in South Korea over claims of false advertising. In that case, Samsung countersued LG for $45 million.

Samsung was also fined in Taiwan earlier this year over misleading advertisements having to do with specifications for the camera on the Galaxy Y Duo.

I guess you got down voted for not talking negatively about Apple. Shame.

The Samsung shills were definitely out in force for AT's HTC One review. How dare Brian award a non plastic phone a Gold editors choice award.

Samsung is no better than Apple. Marketing spin and blatant copying of others work.

Probably down voted because there is some truth to that statement.

You can tell by how quickly some items get downrated when it doesn't favor certain companies and the quick responses to bash and attack them by specific posters.

I forsee a new feature phone from Samsung in the next nine months with an Ultra pixel like camera, aluminum construction, dual front facing speakers, etc.

well, if it's a good idea, other companies will run with it too. Every company does that. Even Apple, which said 10" is the PERFECT size for a tablet and 3.5" is the PERFECT size for a smartphone. And we know what became of that "PERFECT" size.

"Samsung is no better than Apple. Marketing spin and blatant copying of others work."

Yup... True of both, true of most companies... The only asinine thing about it is the sudden need to sue over it.
