Mercedes plans to add more selection to its C-class line
Mercedes-Benz has been working on redesigning its popular C-Class sedan with the new model set to debut next year. Mercedes has announced that it will add convertible, hybrid, and diesel-powered versions to the C-Class lineup. Currently the C-Class for Mercedes is offered as a sedan or coupe with gasoline-powered engines only.
Mercedes currently offers diesel power in its E-Class, GL-Class, M-Class, S-Class, and GLK models. A hybrid powertrain is currently only offered on the E-Class.
Mercedes is hoping that more body styles and powertrain options will allow the C-Class to better battle the BMW 3-Series in the United States. The U.S.-spec BMW 3-Series is available in coupe, convertible, station wagon, diesel, and hybrid versions.

"We were fighting the 3-Series with two arms tied behind our back, and now we will change that," Mercedes-Benz USA CEO Steve Cannon said in an interview.
One 3-Series model that Mercedes doesn't plan to compete against is the
ungainly 3-Series GT crossover
. Cannon said, "[The 3-Series GT is] an answer to product question that no one is asking for. We would rather not do that. Rather than offering a station wagon, we clearly know that SUVs and light trucks are the way to go."
The redesigned C-class will be built in the U.S. and will be revealed at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show. The vehicle will go on sale in August of 2014.
Mercedes also plans to sell the
B-class electric vehicle
in the U.S. in 2014.

Perhaps this new model will have an upgraded interior? I prefer Lexus in the luxury segment but I hate their infotainment center. It's so freaking dated. I love the fact that Audi is starting to roll out Google Maps in the dashboard.
