Canon also announces the T5i
Canon has unveiled a pair of new D-SLR cameras today including the new Rebel SL1 and the Rebel T5i. The SL1 is being called the world's smallest and lightest digital SLR camera on the market. The camera uses an 18-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor and the high-performance Canon DIGIC 5 image processor.
The camera measures 4.6 inches wide by 3.57 inches high by 2.74 inches deep and weighs 14.36 ounces for the body only. Those dimensions make the SL1 approximately 25% smaller and 28% lighter than the Rebel T4i. The camera has an ISO range of 100-12,800 and can be expanded to 25,600. The image processor also allows the camera to shoot bursts continuously up to four frames per second.
Canon fitted the SL1 with a nine-point center cross-type autofocus system. The camera has a three-inch touch sensitive LCD on the back that supports Line View mode. The SL1 supports all the manual controls that you expect from a D-SLR camera and has a number of advanced imaging features. Those advanced features include new Effect Shot modes, Creative Filters, and Background Blur Simulation. The camera can also record HD resolution video.
The SL1 will ship in April for $649.99 for the camera body alone. The camera with lens will ship the same month for $799.99. That kit lens is the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM.
The second D-SLR camera unveiled by Canon is the new T5i featuring the same 18-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor and the DIGIC 5 image processor. This camera has an ISO range of 100-12,800 that can be expanded to 25,600. It can shoot continuous bursts of up to five frames per second and has a nine point TYPE autofocus system. The camera has a three-inch rear touchscreen that has variable angles and supports Live View.
This T5i will be available in April with the body alone selling for $749.99. A bundle with the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens will sell for $899.99. For $1099, you can get the camera body and an EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM kit lens.

A dslr aimed at smaller handed people and women? Yeah don't think so. More like for those looking for portability and for those who won't be using it too frequently. I don't have small hands but the SL1 is for someone like be who backpacks a half dozen times a year where size counts and evey ounce matters.
