French court says no working nights for Apple employees
The High Court of Paris handed down a €10,000 fine and a ban and this week preventing Apple employees from working during the night at seven Apple stores within France. The ban prevents Apple from making retail employees work between the hours of 9 PM until 6 AM the following morning. The court also instituted a penalty of €50,000 per provisional infringement if Apple has employees working between those hours.
"This decision is very good and reflects the desire of Justice to enforce the night work", welcomed Eric Scherrer, CFTC trade employees, which emphasizes "a severe sentence."
"We just ask that the law is respected," Thomas responded in turn Bordage SUD trade, which explains that "the shops close at 2100, but the time for employees to put everything in order and work in workshops some may work until 11:00 p.m. ".
Under French law, working at night between the hours of 9 PM and 6 AM needs to be justified to ensure the continuity of economic activity or social utility to be legal.
The stores covered in the judgment include those located in Opéra in Paris Velizy 2 (Velizy-Villacoublay, Yvelines), Parly 2 (The Chesnay, Yvelines), Carré Sénart (Lieusaint, Seine-et-Marne), Val d'Europe (Marne-la-Vallee, Seine-et-Marne), Cape Town 3000 (Nice, Alpes-Maritimes) and Atlantis (Saint Herblain, Loire-Atlantique).

RE: so it's not just the Unions in France

Yeah, those french are really stupid, don't they know that they could have a 9% higher GDP per capita (like the US does) if only they increased the amount of work they put in per year by 21% (1787 hours instead of 1476)?
And the only excuse they have for tolerating this 9% lower production and wages is the fact that due to free education and health, their quality of life is actually higher than that of a person in the USA with the same job?
But now that will all change of course. If Apple shops are forced to close at 7pm instead of 9pm, iPhone sales will surely drop by 99%, and the french economy will completely implode.
