More Galaxy S IV details leak

Samsung will be officially unveiling the new Galaxy S IV this Thursday. However, that's not stopping new images and details from leaking about the device ahead of the official unveil. New photos have turned up from China show a device that doesn’t mirror the design of previously leaked images.

However, the screenshots from the new leaked photos show that this device has hardware that matches up with previous leaks. This has led some to believe that this could be a prototype device used for carrier testing to protect the final design of the smartphone in the case of a leak (such as this one).

The screenshots show that the device is running Android 4.2.1 and has a full HD resolution 1080p display. The screenshots also show a 1.8 GHz processor, 2 GB of RAM, and a 13-megapixel rear camera.

The device in these new images is supposedly a dual-SIM version of the S IV destined for China Unicom.

You do know that the raised vents around the mic are an industry standard so that it will not seal against a flat surface and muffle the audio, right?

No, Nortel doesnt know anything about anything. He is threatened by anything that isnt Apple branded and needs to post on every competing product to try and detract from it.

As far as the S4, it looks like one of many new 1080p phones. Nothing particularly spectacular about it... Although to be clear to Nnortal ALL of them are better than the wee lil iPhone you hold so dear. Apple needs to step it up.

IMO the three factors to Samsung's success with the Galaxy S3 in the US and, probably with the Galaxy S4 is:

1. The products check all of the boxes: LTE/HSPA+, good battery life, light and thin, removable battery, SD card, great camera and they function very well.
2. They are available on all US carriers from launch day.
3. Marketing, marketing and more marketing. Samsung has been blitzing US consumers with Galaxy S3 and Note 2 ads everywhere. I see them on buses, stadiums, local stores, billboards, etc.

Wow, what's with the name calling? You can disagree without saying stuff like "Apple fucking moron" - That just makes you sound like a tool and as someone who uses Android products, guys like you make us all look like angry 14 year olds.

The phone looks just like the S3, which isn't a bad thing as people who have the previous versions will want something similar. I'm not a fan of a huge screen though - I have big hands and it's still a chore to dial. It's like trying to dial with one hand on my Nexus 7, lol

No, Cheese is right. Nortel is a well know Apple apologist and tries to find ways to crap all over anything that competes with Apple. The obvious lack of tech knowledge just makes him laughable. Yes, SD cards and removable batteries are slow and useless. Except they arent slow and are totally useful.

I am dead serious, and what you say isnt overall true. Sure some people will crap on anything Apple, they are equally as idiotic as Nortel. Apple has alot of good products with good points, and so do competitors. If Nortel were to just once in a blue moon not be such a tool and see the other side it would go along way.

Give Apple some credit, its a good quality phone, and is fast as hell with great battery life for its thinness. If you wanted a small phone, and didn't care about an HD screen, SD card, rem. battery, multi window, wireless charging, HDMI, mini USB, edge to edge display, widgets, wallpapers, custom ROMs, NFC, better notifications, etc. etc., its a good phone. Clearly a lot of people like it. To me it sounds like a low end phone with a high end SOC.

Get a clue. MicroSD is not necessarily slow. Also, do you know why? Because apple charges $100 to double the memory. I can buy a 32GB microSD card for something like $35. Why would I pay $100 for that? You are a complete idiot. Nobody swaps SD cards sure, BUT you can buy a huge one without having to pay a $300 extra to get it.

Swapping is quite useful, as it's not just about space.

If you carry a tiny microSD reader as your flash drive, it makes transferring data from any computer fast and easy. If your camera has a microSD card (whether using an SD adapter or not) you can pop it into your phone for uploading, easier viewing, etc. You can even use an app do some video editing of footage from your digital camera or camcorder.

FYI, if you're paying $35 for a 32gb microSD, you're getting ripped off.

"The fastest microSD card read speed is almost 23MB/s and write 21.5MB/s. The iPhone 5's speeds are 70MB/s read and 40MB/s write. These are real world benchmarked speeds. So almost 3x faster read and 2x faster write. I guess I'm the still complete idiot right?"

Yes, you are... But lets pretend you aren't and see if you can answer these questions.

Most high end phones internal storage is faster than SD cards. That is a known thing.

- Can you think of a reason why having external storage would be good regardless if its not as fast? I can think of several
- Can you think of a reason why having swappable memory would be good? I can think of several
- Can you comprehend that if you are storing apps or music or whatever on an external card, it doesn't make a difference if its 23mb/s vs. 70mb/s? I can.

It's fine if you don't need it, don't want it, or wouldn't use it, but some people do, so keep your uneducated remarks to yourself, you don't understand the tech, don't even try, just STFU and go back to your Apple sites where you complete lack of knowledge can be appreciated.

Yup. And when you have to spend an hour or more moving your music from your Iphone 5 to your new Iphone 5S, and all I have to do is remove my uSD card, and put it in the new phone taking all of 30 seconds, who will be complaining then?

It's storage. It's not meant to hold applications (although it can). Music, Videos, Pictures, documents, whatever! Being able to have that, and have it be removable is an option that some people want.

You center your argument around loading app's....Honestly, most people ARE NOT loading app's from their uSD cards.
While transferring music/video's 2x faster is nice, guess what? I only had to do it once. If you've been using Iphones since the original, thats what? 4 times now that you've had to transfer that data? Guess what, I've still only done it once after 4 phones. Time lost? Not on my end....

People aren't generally removing their uSD cards on a regular basis. Most people rarely ever remove it. Yet again, most of your argument center's around that.
I think it's plainly obvious, you just don't have the understanding to comprehend the reasons. You'd much rather waste time transferring all your data from phone to phone. That's fine, some people are slow. There's nothing wrong with that.

At this point you're clearly a troll..

Samsung offers different phones with different capacities.

my S3 as 16Gb

also, in the same way you "plug" to sync, the samsung can sync as well.
everything your precious iphone can do, the samsung and most android devices can as well.

Also the removable battery is useful if it craps itself.
you do not have to wait days and pay a hefty sum to get it fixed in apple.
you just open your galaxy, remove the battery, put a new one.. and you're good to go.

RE: I hope those aren't real
By testerguy on 3/12/2013 3:46:32 AM , Rating: 2
No, it's not.

It's like saying 'This particular car is stupid, the fuel tank isn't big enough so you have to fill the boot with barrels of gasoline to be able to last you the full journey. I'd prefer a car which has a bigger fuel tank.'

The whole replaceable battery argument is stupid anyway, as I've told you many, many times. For the cost of a replacement battery for a Samsung Galaxy, you can buy a portable mobile phone charger which allows you to charge any phone say 2x (more than a replacement battery), without turning said phone off. They are the same size and weight as a replacement battery so there's no disadvantage.

The SD card argument is different, and if you do need SD card storage fair enough - but I personally believe that the majority of people would prefer not to have to mess around with SD cards and just use the inbuilt storage. Most people are connected to Wifi during the day and can sync whatever files they want before they go on holiday or extended breaks away from Wifi.

I have a spare Sony Ericsson battery (BT45) and charger (EP900) for my Xperia PLAY 4G (R800at) and it has been extraordinarily useful.

Batteries wear out and lose their capacity over time/cycle. Being able to replace them is a good thing. Being able to swap distributes the effect over two batteries so that it will be twice as long before it begins to impact you (or less now that the spare will always get a full charge and the user is more likely to give a full discharge).

You forget that people are not always somewhere where they can charge and they often don't want to leave their phone unattended. Charging whenever for however long is you have is pretty bad for a battery.

I have a problem where my phone sometimes runs dead from full in a few hours when home near the microcell (glitch with the baseband, I assume). If I'm working in the yard and need my phone, I can't just leave it plugged in indoors. That spare battery lets me get things done.

Lastly, mine is a gaming phone with a gamepad. People call it "the PSP phone" or "the Playstation phone." The problem is, I can run a PSP dead without losing my phone, but I can't risk running this dead by playing games or I'll be stuck without a phone until I can return to a charger at the end of the day. With a spare battery, I can risk it and actually use my phone for the function that makes it special.

Next, this particular phone has a pitiful amount of internal storage (512MB). I have to root and use Titanium Backup to force a ton of apps to the 32GB SD card, but I still have routinely swapped. For example, coworkers often ask me what I'm watching. When they are interested, I hand them my SD card and they copy it to their phone, no computer required and no standing around losing battery power and time for wireless transfers. While I would prefer not to mess around with it when it comes to managing my own apps, I have to after even a few apps (most of the space is used by the ROM). Also, some games have several hundred MBs of additional data that they download to the SD card (FMV and recorded audio doesn't need to fill up my fast internal storage no matter if I have the room).

Er, he didn't say 'more features' - and that isn't necessarily true. There are features both phones have which the other doesn't. He also said 'same price' - so he's claiming that the larger screen and cheaper price (which you conveniently ignored) are what is selling Samsung phones. Because what you dismiss as a pro-Apple website is the site run by Horace Dediu who is considered to be one of the most perceptive and respected analysts of the mobile tech industry.

One of the outstanding aspects of Horace Dediu's work is is extensive use of sourced data to analyse the mobile tech industry and to reach carefully reasoned conclusions.

I often cite his work here and it often gets a similar dismissive response, similar to yours, from iPhobes and Fandroids. What's so consistent and telling is that not once, not on a single occasion, have any of those who rush to dismiss his work ever exposed a single flaw in his data, his sources, his reasoning or his conclusions. Not once.

In fact I challenge those who think his site is 'pro-Apple' to dissect any of his articles and show where he has made a mistake in the data he has assembled or the carefully reasoned conclusions he has reached. Go on I dare you :)

Here is a hint to help you: just saying it's wrong because you don't like the outcome does not in itself constitute a critique of someone's reasoning, you actually have offer counter reasoning.

So I note you didn't take up my challenge to logically take apart any of his arguments or challenge any of his data sources in any of his articles. Not liking it's conclusion is not in itself a counter to a piece of reasoning. Merely saying you don't like his conclusion means noting unless you can say why his conclusions are wrong and offer a counter line of analysis.

You people are funny.

Apple makes handsets and competes against other companies that make handsets. Apple not only has the top selling two handsets, outselling the handsets made by any other company, but manages to sell those best selling handsets at a much bigger profit than any other handset maker.

This apparently is meaningless when assessing the relative success or failure of Apple's handset business.

The reality distortion field at full strength, plus clearly complete ignorance about how businesses actually work.

What an amazing in depth representation of this issue. See Jane. See Jane run.

My point was pretty logical. Apple makes one phone, ONE. Which you then compare to other platforms that comprise dozens and dozens of phones from different companies, all competing with each other and Apple. So when you say Apple has the single highest selling phone, well, duh?

All I did was put your statistic in context. Does that take anything away from Apple? No. I'm just framing the facts in a more fair and unbiased manner.

Sorry but, whooosh.

You can't even understand a simple point.

If someone goes into a shop to buy a phone, they have a choice of say, iPhone, SG3, SG2, HTC One, whatever.

For them to select an iPhone, they have to believe it offers more than all of the other phones , exactly like any of the other models.

To try and claim that it's somehow easier to sell an iPhone because there's only one of them is flat out stupid. By that logic, someone can come out with a device called the Zonko 991 with a custom OS and 'well duh' - it will definitely be the best selling phone? How can you not see how idiotic that logic is?

All you're actually saying is that Apple has managed to distinguish itself in a way that none of the competitors has - by building its own OS and app store which offers more in some respects to what Android does. But that's part of their package, it's part of their offering, it's something they built and invested in. Every other company is free to try and do exactly the same thing. Because Apple leads in this area, it gives them a competitive advantage, but do not confuse that with not having to compete with every handset that any Android has to .

Its like this...

In the US , it is a very split political environment, liberals, independants, and conservatives. There are many, many different national news outlets most all of which lean liberal. There is only one that leans conservative, Fox news. Fox is consistently the most watched because it caters to conservatives. The rest of the country is split between a dozen other outlets. Are you with me so far?

Claiming that Apple sales are #1 is like claiming that Fox news is #1. Its neither a positive or a negative, as its not on the same scale. If you were looking for who watches the most news to see where the country is at politically you would incorrectly assume its Fox because it its the most watched, but you would be wrong. If you were looking for which single news outlet was most watched it would be Fox, but its meaningless to determine anything on a national level as its not a straight comparison.

If you are looking for what platform sells the most phones, its Android, by 5 to 1. If you are looking for what single phone sells the most its iPhone, obviously, because its the only one, like Fox news. To argue about real sales is pointless, they already happened and can't be changed. My disagreement with Tony is the double standard. When shown Android outsells IOS 5 to 1, he says sales #'s are meaningless... Then when its Apples turn, suddenly sales #'s matter again Apple is on top . See the hippocracy?

He doesn't, promise that, he is too tuned into his Apple fantasy land that he can't see the forest through the trees.

The cutouts look crappy as hell. I'm just going to assume this is a prototype model. Industry standard or not those cutouts looks crappy.

This is what I am thinking, The cover shown seams to be a prototype. I am sure the final product will be more refined. I really don't understand why everyone is throwing a hissy-fit without even seeing the final product.

You don't seem to realize that it isn't flat so that the microphone openings don't seal against a flat surface. Almost every flat-backed phone has an uneven grill for that same reason. It isn't because the teeth on the saw blade caught the remaining plastic and deformed it on the way out.
