Ferrari looks to take on Porsche, McLaren

It looks like the hybrid supercar wars are on, and Ferrari has fired the latest shot. Porsche revealed the 918 Spyder, McLaren went official with the P1, and now Ferrari has the… LaFerrari.

The LaFerrari is the successor to the Enzo and brings with it an 800hp V12 engine that revs to an eye popping 9,000 rpm. Its peak torque of 516 lb-ft is reached at a "lower" 6,750 rpm. In addition to the V12 monster behind the driver, the LaFerrari also features a 163hp (199 lb-ft) electric motor.

With all of this power on tap, Ferrari says that the LaFerrari can scoot to 60 mph in less than three seconds and hit 124 mph in under seven seconds. The LaFerrari will keep on accelerating at an astonishing rate (186 mph in 15 seconds) until it reaches a top speed of 217 mph.

Not much else is known about this crazy hybrid other than the fact that is has 41/59 (front/rear) weight distribution, 19" wheels up front, and 20" wheels in the back.

As we get more info on the LaFerrari, we'll keep you posted.

hybrid doesnt mean that it is a fuel sipping crate on pram wheels.

it just means that there is a regenerative braking system

the actual reason for all these stupid hybrid supercars is to get around upcoming EU regulation saying that the average co2 production of the 'entire range' of each manufacturer must be below a certain arbritrary figure.

this isnt a problem for ford, bmw. mercedes etc. it is however a huge problem for the likes of ferrari, aston marton and porsche - the solution - hybrid systems with automatic boxes - they will fly through the co2 measuring system (on battery power). aston martin have resorted to rebranding a toyota aygo and selling a small car with a lawnmower engine - the aston martin cygnet. to prevent ordinary folk from being able to buy it, it is three times the price of a normal aygo and only avilable for purchase after you buy a proper aston martin ;-)

That's odd, because when I hear hybrid, I think of Porsche 918 Spyder.

Maybe its just you and your prejudice.

That's weird cos when I hear the word "Hybrid" I think of Barrack Obama or a Liger.

Now I'm thinking of Barack Obama riding into battle on the back of a Liger.

Awesomeness.
