It's expected to be $10-$15 cheaper than Amazon Prime

Google is creating its own Amazon Prime-like service that is expected to be cheaper and offers same-day delivery.

Google's new service is called "Google Shopping Express," and will cost around $64-$69 a year -- which is $10-$15 cheaper than Amazon Prime's annual membership fee of $79.

Google Shopping Express will also have a same-day shipping option, like Amazon Prime. But same-day delivery for Google's new service will come from brick-and-mortar stores like Walmart, Target, Safeway and Walgreens.

Amazon is a competitor to brick-and-mortars, and a war broke out between the two when brick-and-mortar stores said it was unfair for online-only Amazon to skip on sales tax collection in certain states -- which allowed Amazon to offer better prices. While Amazon has started collecting taxes in some states, brick-and-mortars could also get a boost by partnering with Google in its new service.

This new venture is likely a result of Google's two recent acquisitions: BufferBox and Channel Intelligence. With BufferBox, Google can use the delivery lockers for easier shipment and Channel Intelligence's data-management platform could help keep sales and deliveries organized.

There's no word on when this service will launch.

I guess I don't understand Google vs Amazon. Obviously Amazon ended up forking an Android distro for its device but I mean it hardly seems like Android competition.

All these lengths seem kinda senseless? Amazon doesn't even profit off of devices, it profits off of sales which the device is just another avenue for.

Can someone shed any light on this?

I think you should read the article, it never mentioned Android in the slightest. Google is starting to etail just like Amazon and offers same day delivery (in certain areas) when it launches. This is a comparison because Amazon already does this, they are an etailer that ships goods and has an annual subscription for their "prime" membership which Google will be also be mirroring but at a lower price (all details not final yet on what all Google "prime"like perks will be). It boils down to (potentially) Amazon vs Google for your online shopping, that's it.

Man, it's like when Cocoa Pebbles copied Cocoa Krispies! This injustice creating competition of similar products cannot stand! Every company MUST have a monopoly and NO ONE ELSE can create a similar product without facing a lawsuit!

Perhaps you should read my comment. I am not looking at this through the confined perspective of the article. I like to look at the big picture.

Amazon forked off Android with it's Kindle Fire and since then Google vs Amazon has been happening. Maybe even a bit before.

This is the latest in that back and forth. So, based off of what I know so far, that is why I am asking for someone familiar to elaborate because of all the Google rivalries that seem to be cropping up, Amazon vs Google is even more dumb that Samsung vs Google.

It's a serious question about a broader topic the article is based off of. Not a troll.

Sorry for double post... also, I should have labelled it Google vs Samsung as Samsung has never (to my knowledge) actively worked against Google, although they have all the reason to since Google's anti-Samsung meeting.
