Google is not impressed

Google has no problem with telling it like it is. Yesterday, the Android maker said Motorola isn't creating good enough mobile products for its popular operating system.

Patrick Pichette, Google's chief financial officer and senior vice president, told an audience at the Morgan Stanley Technology Conference that Motorola isn't up to par with Google's expectations of a hardware maker.

"[Motorola's pipeline are] not really to the standards that what Google would say is wow -- innovative, transformative," said Pichette. "We've inherited 18 months of pipeline that we actually have to drain right now, while we're actually building the next wave of innovation and product lines."

So far, a few Motorola releases for Android include the Droid RAZR Maxx HD and the Droid RAZR M. While these phones aren't half bad, Google said customers want more.

Pichette also made mention that Google's relationship with Samsung, its No. 1 hardware maker, is "terrific" despite recent rumors. In fact, the Samsung Galaxy S IV with the Android operating system is due to be announced March 14.

I don't doubt the possibility of a Motorola X phone, but I highly doubt it will be released in May. I just cannot believe those ridiculous rumors. I'm still waiting for my HTC, Sony, and Samsung Nexus that was supposed to be released when the Nexus 4 was.

True, nothing is official until its officially announced, but May makes sense... It's not a rumor that its coming and that its internal name is X, and that its target is the high end market. It's been mentioned by Google management that its the first phone designed with Google's input since the Moto buyout and the device development pipeline timing matches up with the Google Developer Conference in May.

Ya, I heard that too, at least to be released at some point this year, then they all died down when the X appeared on the roadmap. That is part of the rumor... Google changed the plan based on lackluster designs from the usual suspects, and decided to do a single phone with thier own input on design, specs and functionality.

I dont really care, I have a basic plan for my yearly phone upgrade... I am going to look at (meaning in person) the LG Opti pro 1st. Its a serious thing of beauty. Great edge to edge display. http://www.anandtech.com/show/6792/lg-optimus-g-pr...

That is the front runner right now, but I will take a close look at S4, Xperia Z and Google X and decide.
