The starting price is only for the. 01%-ers

If you ever needed a reason to strive for higher education or winning the lottery, the McLaren P1 is it. McLaren Automotive has gone official offering up all the details on its latest supercar, and the beast is impressive. McLaren promises that the P1 will hit 186 mph in less than 17 seconds, making it 23% faster than the legendary F1. The car has an electronically limited top speed of "only" 217 mph.

The automaker also notes that the production version of the P1 is virtually unchanged from the original design study. As you can imagine with any supercar, this beast is exceptionally far from affordable. McLaren says pricing will start at £866,000.

We have already talked a bit about the P1 in the past so you should already know that the car has a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 and the electric motor/battery system for a combined for 903 BHP. The Instant Power Assist System is a race-inspired technology that adds an additional power to help acceleration allowing the P1 to reach 62 mph in under 3 seconds. The car will eclipse 124 mph in less than 7 seconds. McLaren says that in electric-only mode, the vehicle can operate up to 30 mph with a range of 12 miles.

McLaren also promises that the P1 has the suspension and braking capability for the racetrack with braking performance on par with a GT3 sports racing car.

McLaren notes that it will only produce 375 of these vehicles to keep them rare. There are a number of color and trim alternatives that the customer can choose from including visible carbon fiber in the cabin. McLaren also points out that the car is completely customizable (depending on how big your wallet is) via McLaren Special Operations.

I agree which is why I really hate this topic. The world is how it is, accept it and move on. It's not some travesty that we use a different measuring system. It worked just fine for hundreds of years, and will continue to.

Man you seem REALLY angry about this. Dig up Reagan and choke him? Come on, get a grip.

You realize nobody here on Daily Tech is in charge of making this change right? However I, like Reagan, am probably more concerned about the countries economic collapse than I am in making your life a little bit easier.

I cannot think of a more stupid waste of taxpayer money than the United States Metric Board. Reagan absolutely did the right thing. We should NOT have so many federal-level agencies. Like that goddamn stupid Federal Olympic Doping agency we have today. Persecuting Lance Armstrong in a crappy economy, way to have our priorities in order!

Can we just stop talking about this? God it's so stupid. WE HAVE WAY BIGGER PROBLEMS!

Well, we can agree on one thing for sure: Anytime we spend money with our government getting involved in sports doping...what a total fucking travesty.

Ok, so Lance Armstrong is a douche bag. So Roger Clemens counts by stomping his hoof like Secretariet...WHO FUCKING CARES. With all the real problems we have to deal with, Congressional hearings? Are you kidding me??? GTFO

Way to completely miss the point reclaimer.

There are solid economic and technical reasons for making the change to metric, there is only dogma and pride as arguments for keeping the imperial system.

TopKill is clearly asking why are people so protective of the existing system when "it is just a way to measure shit". They are not talking about the insignificance of the change.

AHA maybe that's the key. If only we just switched to the metric system, we could eliminate this deficit in a matter of years.

It's not that I've missed the point it's just that I don't think it matters all that much.however I'm not an anal retentive person so perhaps I just don't see what the travesty is.

I suppose next we'll have to switch to driving on the left side of the road this driving on the right side of the road is just another crazy thing us stupid Americans do that the quote rest of the world doesn't end quote.

1) The avoirdupois system (american) is confusing and prone to errors. Weight(lb)(kg*g), force(lb)(N), mass(lb)(kg) are different things with different meanings. Needless to mention how much money is lost each year for conversion errors and engineering time.

2) NIST(USA agency) has already regulated this matter and mandated that any USA legal document must use metric system and in the utmost impossible case must use (lbm) for mass and (lbf) for force, otherwise the document has no legal value.

3) This is a big issue downplayed by shortsighted individuals.
