The starting price is only for the. 01%-ers

If you ever needed a reason to strive for higher education or winning the lottery, the McLaren P1 is it. McLaren Automotive has gone official offering up all the details on its latest supercar, and the beast is impressive. McLaren promises that the P1 will hit 186 mph in less than 17 seconds, making it 23% faster than the legendary F1. The car has an electronically limited top speed of "only" 217 mph.
The automaker also notes that the production version of the P1 is virtually unchanged from the original design study. As you can imagine with any supercar, this beast is exceptionally far from affordable. McLaren says pricing will start at £866,000.

We have already talked a bit about the P1 in the past so you should already know that the car has a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 and the electric motor/battery system for a combined for 903 BHP. The Instant Power Assist System is a race-inspired technology that adds an additional power to help acceleration allowing the P1 to reach 62 mph in under 3 seconds. The car will eclipse 124 mph in less than 7 seconds. McLaren says that in electric-only mode, the vehicle can operate up to 30 mph with a range of 12 miles.
McLaren also promises that the P1 has the suspension and braking capability for the racetrack with braking performance on par with a GT3 sports racing car.

McLaren notes that it will only produce 375 of these vehicles to keep them rare. There are a number of color and trim alternatives that the customer can choose from including visible carbon fiber in the cabin. McLaren also points out that the car is completely customizable (depending on how big your wallet is) via McLaren Special Operations.

Meah. The more America "globalizes" the more it seems we've turned to shit. I could stand to be a little different than the "rest of the world". I never felt that was a valid argument to arbitrarily change anyway.

Fuck the rest of the world. /shrug We're the last "Superpower" anyway, at least for now, shouldn't they be doing things OUR way? Hell most of them never even made it to "Superpower" level yet! Why should WE change?

Jimmy Carter just didn't have the wherewithal to sell it to the American people back in the 70s.

Well I think he was probably too busy destroying the economy to worry about that. And the people, thanks to him, had way bigger concerns than the Metric system.

In day to day life, it's such a non-issue.

They should teach suicide in american schools if this is the result of the USA education system.

Well I didn't know it was because all of those lazy layabouts in the rest of world don't have nukes. Why don't they all get off their lazy asses and make themselves some nukes. Then maybe we can get the metric system here. :)

Really, I do agree that there's much more important things than that in the US right now, but they're wasting time and money on much more frivolous things in the good ol' US Gub'ment so WTF, why not.

When we all drive over the fiscal cliff doing 200kmph we can do it knowing we're in a high-powered bus that's metric. That's gotta be worth something.

Its this kind of thinking that got America into the position it's in today.

Hey, wake up. US will no longer be a superpower. Time to take your head out of your ass.

Nah, we'll always be a superpower because we LIKE spending a TRILLION DOLLARS A YEAR on our military....and then BITCHING ABOUT HOW MUCH WE PAY IN THE TAXES TO DO IT!

It's like a national sport for us.

Pay attention to what I'm replying to.

Its this kind of mentality that's killing US. Because US has an abundance of natural resources, for some reason we get to dictate what the rest of the world should do. Worse yet, this superiority complex actually made us inferior by blinding us to better ideas.

Only 2~3 countries in the world, out of 108 countries, uses imperial system. Everyone else, including engineers and scientists, use metric system. Not only it makes a lot more sense, it is also exceedingly more convenient. But hey, this is 'MURICA! We're the superpower of the world, and everyone should follow us.
