Emergency broadcast system gives alarming message to daytime TV fans

If you happened to live in Montana and be watching the CW mid-afternoon on Monday you might have had your enjoyable "Steve Wilkos: Teen Cheaters..." programming interrupted with a disturbing message. The Montana Television Network Great Falls affiliate KRTV's CW station informed watchers that "dead bodies are rising from their graves" across the state.

The emergency broadcast then went on to warn citizens that the walking dead were attacking the fleshy residents of the state, warning citizens not to try to "approach or apprehend these bodies as they are extremely dangerous."

The network apologized for the broadcast, saying it was not authentic and that its engineers were investigating a possible intrusion into the Emergency Alert System (EAS).

While the broadcast was phony it inspired several calls to local police from concerned citizens who believed it to be real, according to the The Great Falls Tribune. Lt. Shane Sorensen is quoted by the paper as saying, "We had four calls checking to see if it was true. And then I thought, ‘Wait. What if?’ We can report in the city, there have been no sightings of dead bodies rising from the ground."

It is unknown who hacked into the system or what charges they might face. If the zombie apocalypse had been real, at least Montanans would have been well prepared -- Montana is reportedly the third highest state in terms of gun ownership, with 57.7 percent of citizens being registered gun owners [source].
