AT&T CEO says landingthe iPhone is one of the best moments of his career
Back in 2010, AT&T decided that it would
try to purchase rival wireless carrier T-Mobile
. AT&T offered Deutsche Telekom $39 billion for T-Mobile, and it was eager to sell. The problem for both of the wireless carriers was the regulators stepped in and
killed the deal
AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson recently talked a bit about the
, stating, "I wouldn't say it was a bad decision, but it was a decision that didn't go the way I wanted. We didn't execute well."
Stephenson made the comments during an interview with University of Colorado Law school dean Phil Weiser. Stephenson described the failed deal as one of the worst moments of his career as CEO of AT&T. However, he describes landing the iPhone exclusive in 2007 as one of his best.
Stephenson said of the iPhone deal, "We didn't have a great vision as to where this would go, we just knew that when you took data utilization and made it mobile, it would explode."
"We were betting on Steve Jobs," Stephenson continued. "And time has proven that to be a good bet. But it was not a partnership that came without pain."
Stevenson also noted that he expects Dish Network to join in with an existing wireless carrier to use its 40MHx of S-Band wireless spectrum rather than trying to roll out its own LTE network.

T-Mobile has some great options
2/12/2013 3:31:17 PM
Been with t-mobile for a few months now, solid service as long as you check your coverage area before buying. Love the wifi calling option on the phones, I live in a rural area so there is no signal from any provider at my home, I just connect my phone to my wireless internet and everything is sent over wifi, it has worked fairly solid so far.
Also, not to many people know about this but t-mobile has the best prepaid options for mobile broadband internet service as long as you buy from walmart. When I go on vacation to my Aunt's condo in Florida and need to get on the internet on my laptop for just the 2 weeks or so I'm there, I just take the t-mobile 4G mobile hotspot device I bought from Walmart for $80 and buy one of the prepaid cards, $35 for 3.5GB or 60 days whatever comes first and I'm set. You have to buy the device from Walmart though to get the 60 days, if you buy it from t-mobile or somewhere else it's only good for 30 days, they have some kind of deal setup with Walmart.
If anybody wants more info, here are the links, I don't think you can beat this pricing by going with any other carrier/service/tech.
They have several other prepaid cards like $50 for 5GB or 60 days. The other cheaper prepaid cards are only good for 30 days, only the $35 and $50 are good for 60 days.

Plenty of people know about the prepaid plans themselves and the special ones like the $30/100minutes/unlimited other from Walmart. But I was not personally aware of that device, or the extra time you get because you bought it at Walmart. Not something I envision using soon, but it's good to know what's out there. Thanks!
