Both plans come with unlimited talk and text, but no 4G LTE
Verizon Wireless is betting its
(in coverage and customers) will lure some to try its prepaid (no-contract) plan, despite relatively high pricing.
We brought word early last month that Sprint Nextel Corp. (
rolling out its own branded prepaid services
, in addition to those of its joint-subsidiaries
Virgin Mobile USA
. Compared to Boost and Virgin, Sprint's $70 USD/month for unlimited data, talk, and text seemed pretty exorbitant.
But Verizon Wireless is offering an even stingier handout. Verizon wants customers to pay either $60 USD/month for unlimited 3G talk and text, plus 500 MB of data; or $70 USD/month for unlimited 3G talk and text, plus 2 GB of data.

The handset selection isn't that great either, with a smattering of outdated single-core Android
handsets, such as the "Illusion" by Samsung Electronics Comp., Ltd. (
) (a Galaxy S relative) or the "Droid Incredible 2" by HTC Corp. (
). "Most BlackBerry models" will also be included, but it's doubtful that BlackBerry Ltd.'s (
new BlackBerry 10 handsets
will be offered. It's unclear whether BlackBerry buyers will be forced to pay the extra monthly service fee that is typically charged.
One place Verizon does score a win, though, is pricing. The illusion is priced at only $99 USD (versus $250 USD for the similar Galaxy S Victory on Sprint, or $149 USD for the Galaxy Rush on Boost Mobile).
