Hacker faces over a century of prison time
A computer hacker named Karen "Gary" Kazaryan is currently before a federal grand jury in the Central District of California. A grand jury has returned a 30-count indictment against the hacker and if convicted, Kazaryan could face as much as 105 years in federal prison.
The federal indictment alleges that the 27-year-old hacker scoured social media accounts and broke into email accounts hoping to score nude or semi-nude pictures of women. Not content with simply accessing nude photos from those hacked accounts, Kazaryan took his antics a step further by posing as a Facebook friend and coercing the victimized women to strip via webcam.
He then used the original images that he hacked along with the images captured from the webcam footage to blackmail over 350 females to encourage even more stripping via webcam. For those that questioned his motives or refused to submit to his wishes, Kazaryan would retaliate by posting the images of the women on their Facebook accounts.
The investigation into the hacker is ongoing, but federal agents have reportedly recovered 3,000 nude or semi-nude photographs on the man's computer.
Cases like this one are all too common these days. Anthony Stancl received 15 years in prison for blackmailing 31 people into having sex with him, using Facebook as a conduit.
