Samsung brags on Galaxy S series sales success

Samsung officially announced today that its Galaxy S series of smartphones has passed 100 million units in cumulative sales. The sales figure includes the original Galaxy S, the Galaxy S II, and the Galaxy S III. Samsung also offered details on how each of the smartphones in the series adding to the overall milestone.

The Galaxy S launched in June of 2010 and sold 24 million units globally. Samsung says that 10 million of those units were sold in the first seven months after launch. The Galaxy S II launched in April 2011 and has sold 40 million units globally. Ten million of those units came the first five months after the smartphone launched.

The Galaxy S III launched in May of 2012 and has sold 40 million units globally -- 20 million of those sales came within 100 days of the smartphone's launch.

I have an S3, and I like it... But it seems to me there are alot better Androids out there. We'll have to see about the S4 and what else is available when it releases, but I am not sure if I want one. Prolly go HTC or MAybe even get the Experia Z.. Its all that + waterproof.

first off, congrats to samsung!

and to OP: two of my friends have HTCs, and they both are starting to show their age after only 1 year. the case plastics are coming apart. i used to have a sony (xperia ray), and although it still looks like new, it switches itself on and off constantly. i switched to samsung about 6 weeks ago; no problems yet. let's hope it stays that way.

Ya, My S3 is still in perfect shape after 7 months. Its plastic, but that plastic is super scratch resistant. It looks perfectly new. The only thing I dont like is the fingerprinty back cover. I rather wish it were rubberized like my Nexus 7's back. Cheap, strong and feels good. Aluminum is nice, but it scratches way too easy.

I got my wife a S3 and I'm a little disappointed. I use a Samsung Focus S (WP7), so I was expecting more from the interface since most of my friends say it is better than Apple, however it seams like I'm just creating icons for the applications she uses (just like Apple). Then I expected more from the camera and I just can't get it to take decent pictures like my Focus S.

Overall the hardware is great and the feel of the phone is great. I will probably get the next generation S4 since I need Wifi calling which isn't available on WP8.

Most everyone makes up negative things about Windows Phone to detract from reality now. Yes you can use skype.

Being Microsoft owns Skype one would hope Skype is supported right? But "reality" is app wise Windows phone support is paltry at best compared to Android. WP is a compromise. You get a pretty cool heads up like display in exchange for a lot less apps that is growing slowly at best.

That's not really true, honestly. I have an 8X, and I've found a more than adequate app (often third party) for everything I need. Youtube, Pandora, Google maps, Skype, facebook, etc. I haven't been missing a single thing except for Twitch TV, which isn't even very optimized on Android.

There are less games compared to my last phone (Android), but Wordament is really good, and cross platform.

I love the if you don't have 600,000 apps you must be missing out on something. Windows Phone has 150,000+ apps and growing. How many variations of flashlight and fart apps does one really need?

Windows Phone is getting the last few top apps that were missing. Its pretty much down to the OS ability and supporting eco system that differentiate a Windows Phone from an Android since they are practically on the same hardware. There have been enough Windows Phone sales that every top developer should be on board with thier app if not its an opportunity for someone else to claim their top spot in a new and growing eco system.

Since I haven't ever had to reboot my Windows Phone in the near 2 years Ive owned it and its been a solid experience I'm sticking with Windows Phone. Its still snappy and responsive. I just want a camera upgrade but Ill take a dual or even quad core by the time my contract is up for renewal soon enough. Most likely whatever is going to be the replacement to the Nokia 920.

problem is that in some countries you cannot buy from the market for instance my country malta is excluded and i can only install free software, this is not an issue on either android or itunes. Overall Im still satisfied with my lumia 710 running wp7.8 since the interface is gorgeous, and the essential apps like browser/office/cammera/multimedia are builtin

on wp7.8 i have viper/whatsup/and skype guess you can however I miss the openness of android devices (i.e. being able to get apps for free)

My wife picked up an S3 when they came out and it has by far been the best Android phone anyone in my house has ever owned (4 people in my house using Android phones).

Before the SIII we had only used HTC Evo(series) and LG Optimus(series) phones and compared to the SIII they all suck big ones.

YA, but alot of that is just going with Android 4. 2.xxx sucked rocks and alot of makers made it worse with crappy implementations. Alot of todays latest Androids blow the S3 away. Then again, so will the S4.

suggestion you might also want to look at windows phones they have a very pretty interface and is fun to use, maybe you will like them. Overall both WP7.8/8 and Android devices are excellent devices

I like what I see, and have been waiting to try WP8. We have almost 500 users here and do a "pick your own smartphone" policy as we phase out the Blackberry server (only like a dozen people left on that rediculous thing). Anyhow, as long as it support EAS (which all modern smartphones except Blackberries do) they can pick what they want. We get roughly 50/50 iPhone and Android. as we set them up and send them out we get to play with whatever people buy. So far, not a single WP8 user. So I have seen demo's online and read reviews, but I really want to touch one and use it for myself for a bit before I make a call on it. Still waiting. Damn.
