New cases target the budget to mid-range

At the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show components maker Thermaltake showed us their (somewhat) new Chaser and Urban Simplicity Families.

Last year Chaser was a limited edition enthusiast case (the Chaser MK-I).  Given the popularity of that model, Thermaltake decided to take the dive and expand that look into a whole family of bold designs.  Particularly eye-catching is the new Chaser A31, priced at around $80.  It features bold blue and white styling and an eye-catching front plate, along with two USB 3.0 slots.

The larger members of the family -- the A41 ($100) and the a71 ($160) -- come with four USB 3.0 ports and the ability to support water cooling (which the A31 lacks).

All members of the family have removeable drive bay cages, in case you want to parlay having an excess of storage for having a bit more free case space.  Thermaltake also made a calculated decision to cover the drive bays in the new case, saving the plastic window for just the internals.  A company representative said that the company realized that there's no need for a see-through panel to view the blasé drive bays.

Thermaltake is also introducing the "Urban Simplicity" family, which will include four cases.  The S71, S41, S31, and S21 will be available for $160, $130, $90, and $70 USD, repsectively.

The componentmaker says the new chassis desgns embody its aim of "sleek and simple" designs, and were formulated not to clash with the bolder Chaser series.

Coolermaters and Thermaltake are both pretty similar, lots of tacky designs. I much prefer Corsair and Silverstone's cases. Aside from having much better external designs, the internals are also much more intelligently laid out.

I have a Corsair C70 case for a military themed build (With the Sabertooth X79 board, Corsair gold coloured memory, Noctua fans etc'.)
Good case, not a dust magnet like the Antecs, However... The thermals are absolutely horrible.

Yet a Coolermaster HAF X that I use for my other desktop is bloody terrific for thermals, tacky or not and looks brilliant with all the UV lighting up the water loop.

As for Aesthetics, that all comes down to the theme you want and personal taste, most of Corsair and Silverstone's cases bore me to death.

It does all come down to taste. The HAF X was IMHO the ugliest case up until Thermaltake released the Level 10. As for the C70 thermals, they really are designed for water cooling (intake from the back and radiator on top).

I like understated and clean looking things, but I understand that there's a market for cases that look like they're going to transform into a robot. Fortunately there are choices for everyone. :)
