Major mobile carriers looking forward to BlackBerry 10 offerings

The launch of RIM's BlackBerry 10 operating system and new smartphones running the OS will be here before by the end of the month. BlackBerry is betting big on its new operating system to help it gain back some of the ground it lost in the smartphone market to rivals from Apple and Android OEMs.

RIM has received good news with AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile executives all having stated that they are looking forward to offering the devices on their networks.

"We're hopeful it's going to be a good device," Lowell McAdam, chief executive of Verizon Communications, majority owner of the biggest U.S. mobile service Verizon Wireless.

T-Mobile CEO John Legere said, "We're extremely optimistic that it's going to be a successful product and our business customers are extremely interested in it."

RIM was once the dominant player in the smartphone market, but lost that thrown to Apple with its incredibly popular iPhone. Even enterprise customers that traditionally stuck with the BlackBerry have over the years defected to Android devices and the iPhone.

However, some U.S. federal agencies using the BlackBerry smartphone have promised to give the BlackBerry 10 devices a chance before ditching BlackBerry smartphones altogether.

RIM stated this week that it plans to make available 6 BB10 handsets this year.

"This is about the Internet.  Everything on the Internet is encrypted. This is not a BlackBerry-only issue. If they can't deal with the Internet, they should shut it off." -- RIM co-CEO Michael Lazaridis
