As Research In Motion (RIM) prepares to release its new BlackBerry 10 (BB10) software, reports suggest that the company plans to offer a variety of BB10 devices that will cover a broad price range in order to attract customers.

Throughout 2013, RIM plans to release a total of six BB10 devices. These smartphones will range from low-end to high-end prices so that they'll draw in customers of any budget.

RIM will release BB10 at an event on January 30, where its first two devices will be announced. One device will be all-touch while the other will have a QWERTY keyboard.

"We intend over time as we transition the portfolio to have a full range of devices," said Frank Boulben, RIM CMO.

RIM added that it doesn't have any exclusive relationships with carriers in the U.S., meaning that it has more flexibility and can attract more customers.

BB10 will feature a new user interface, BlackBerry Hub for combined inboxes/messages/notifications, BlackBerry Peek for switching between multiple apps without closing them and BlackBerry Flow for scrolling between apps.

Fusion

As much as I'd like to see RIM succeed the need to upgrade from BES to Fusion will be their pain point of success.

Fusion doesn't manage the device. Everybody needs to get their facts straight. Fusion is more like a management front end for BES as well as the Blackberry Device Manager (manages BB10 devices), and the Universal Device Manager (other Activesync phones). You set up the other three and they function just fine independent of Fusion but then you set up a Fusion server to manage all three. That way you can search for one user and find them without first having to find out what device they have. You can install Fusion but you won't be able to manage a BB10 device without that BDM service running somewhere so if that's your intention, yes, you will be extremely frustrated.
By the way BB10 has ActiveSync so you don't necessarily need BDM. You just don't get a lot of the management features such as the isolated enterprise data on the phone.
