ASUS has announced a tablet/All-in-One (AiO) hybrid device based on its popular
The ASUS Transformer AiO combines the qualities of a tablet and an AiO PC. Users can use it as a portable tablet, and then simply click it into the base station to transform into an AiO.
The Transformer AiO features an 18.4-inch, 10-point touch LED-backlit IPS display, a 3rd generation Intel Core processor, a NVIDIA Tegra quad-core processor for use as an Android tablet and ASUS SonicMaster technology for clear audio.
AiO can also switch between the
operating system and the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS. In Android mode, the "display" can be removed from the base and used a standalone tablet. It can also be used in tablet mode while running Windows 8, however, it has to be within 30 feet or so of the base to communicate via Wi-Fi Direct.
Pricing and availability are unknown at this time.

They say when it's undocked you can still use it as a Windows 8 tablet using Miracast or some alternative. I get the impression that's not a built-in feature but just something they can see users doing without too much trouble. I reckon using something like Splashtop would work well.

I'll update the article shortly, as I just had some hands-on time with the device. When undocked from the base, it can run Android (all by itself) or Windows 8 using WiFi Direct and Splashtop (which was not working on the demo).
Range for WiFi direct in Windows 8 mode is around 30 feet.

Excellent news that it's a built-on feature. Very jealous that you got to play with it!
