Chinese telecommunications maker
is adding to the Windows Phone 8 lineup with its very first WP8 entry, the Ascend W1.
The Huawei Ascend W1 features a 4-inch IPS LCD display with OGS technology, a 480x800 resolution, a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8230 dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, an Adreno 305 GPU and the Windows Phone 8 operating system.
Visually, the Ascend W1 is thin at 10.15mm and comes in red, black, white or blue.
“Inspired and powered by people, the Ascend W1 is a combination of Huawei’s user-centric design philosophy and Windows Phone 8 software, bringing consumers a truly compelling alternative,” said Richard Yu, CEO, Huawei Consumer Business Group. “The addition of the Ascend W1 to our smartphone portfolio gives consumers access to an even wider range of Huawei smartphones. At a price that makes sense to consumers, Ascend W1 underscores our commitment to put smartphones within reach of every consumer, no matter who you are or what you want from your phone.”
Just last week, Huawei announced that it would sell its
Ascend P1 smartphone
through Amazon in an effort to reach the U.S. market.
The Ascend P1 is an Android-powered smartphone with a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display, a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, an 8 MP camera and 1 GB of RAM. It's also very slim at 7.6 millimeters.
The Huawei Ascend W1 will be available in China and Russia in January 2013 while Western Europe, the Middle East, USA and other select countries will receive it at a later date.

It is not something unique. I bought an Motorola android phone with the promise of updates to newer android versions. Those never came. Apple will upgrade your old ass iPhone to its new OS generally to force you to buy a new phone by rendering your current one useless to cope with the newer iOS version.
