Samsung looks forward to a big 2013
Samsung has announced that it expects to earn record profit of $8.3 billion in its most recent quarter. This marks five straight record quarters in a row for Samsung. However, Samsung's record-setting run could unravel in the quarter that ends in March of 2013 due to weaker seasonal demand reports
"Investors are a bit concerned that Samsung's momentum may slow in the first half. The smartphone market is unlikely to sustain its strong growth as advanced markets are nearing saturation despite growth in emerging countries," said Kim Sung-soo, a fund manager at LS Asset Management.
Samsung continues to
outpace its closest rival
, Apple, despite the launch of the iPhone 5. Samsung has seen continued strong sales from the
Galaxy S III
and Galaxy Note II during Q4.
Galaxy Note II
does report, however, that shipments of Samsung's Galaxy S III smartphone are likely to have slipped to around 15 million units in the current quarter from 18 million in the quarter that spanned July through September. Analysts believe that the Galaxy Note II sold around 8 million units during the same timeframe.
Samsung predicts that it will increase it smartphone sales by more than one third this year and widen its lead over Apple even further. Samsung predicts it will sell
390 million smartphones in 2013

Dude, people want Apple to fail because they aren't innovating anymore. iOS doesn't even have desktop widgets for Christ sake. The whole operating system looks like it is a remnant of 2007 and barely has a UI capacity beyond BBOS5.
Yet Apple keeps putting it on luxurious hardware. Android is light years ahead of iOS in UI, functionality and capability. Because it IS a free, open source ecosystem it allows customization by manufactures. This isn't 'fragmentation' this is innovation. HTC Sense, Samsung TouchWiz, etc, are all innovative UI's. Practically every manufacture (including Apple) has adopted something from HTC Sense.
Everytime I show my GSIII to someone who is on their second or third iPhone they are just completely blown away by the fact they have been crippled by their iPhone. I'm talking business users who got on the iPhone bandwagon because the media and sales people at AT&T pushed them in that direction.
This is the same reason Windows Phone doesn't succeed. It's quite capable (way more than the iPhone) at saving time with UI gestures and live tiles, but the powers that be in marketing continue to push Apple.

On the other hand people who want to get actual productive work done still do it on proper laptops. No matter how much crap is spouted about split screen apps, and openness, and freedom, and multitasking the simple fact is only a die-hard nerd who doesn't have to worry about deadlines is going to bother about any of that crap.
Yeah it's all nice stuff to show off to other nerds but some of us have a living to make and none of that crap on a phone matters.
