 Acer Iconia B1-A71
Acer gets in on the budget tablet market
We heard some rumblings late last month that Acer was on the verge of releasing a $99 Android-based tablet for emerging markets. Well, that tablet is here, but the $99 rumored price tag is MIA.
Instead, we get the Iconia B1-A71 that features a 1.2GHz Mediatek processor, 512MB of RAM, 8GB of storage space (a microSD can expand support to 32GB), and a 1024x600 display. Interestingly, the small tablet only features a 0.3MP front-facing camera and doesn't have a standard rear-shooter. The tablet doesn't even break the one-pound mark, weighing in at just 11.3 ounces.
The budget Android Jelly Bean tablet will set you back $150 bucks, but Acer still hasn’t provided a release date yet.
There is already competition in this price bracket from Amazon and Barnes and Noble, but those tablets both run hacked up versions of Android (unless you install a hacked version of Android yourself). Acer may be able to carve out a niche for itself with a relatively cheap tablet that can still run the full gamut of Android apps.
